The Railway by Edouard Manet Although art history scholars have attempted to justify that Romantic period–romanticism - was shallow as compared to Renaissance of Classical art, there is a strong justification that the artists of the time were creative and more often than not, they pursued their own styles. Following the increased debate on the quality of romanticism, the scholar of the incoming paper sought it wise to investigate the commonality aspects of the art and how their development was revolutionary at the time. The incoming research is cantered on the Railway, which belongs to Edoured Manet. Manet was born in 23 January 1832 – 30 April 1883 (Armstrong, 2002)1. The painter is closely related to impressionism. These are a romantic choices of the genre. For that reason, the commencing research will investigate the original patron associated with the workers, as well as symbolism of the same. Critical attention will be accorded to history and culture. The Original Patron For many years, the traditional view of medieval period consisted as the dark ages, a time which consisted lack of culture or sophistication. However, art was slowly recognizing the richness of medieval culture, especially during the classical and romantic times. Most of medieval art was religious in nature. Unlike other paintings of the Romantic period, it is clear that the bar of iron, the choice of clothing and the setting do have modern references. The railway has entranced both art and historians in a broader perspective. From the art, there is a broader public life. This is not very similar to romanticism images with seemingly ability to provide a transparent window onto daily life in the late middle ages. In fact, in the clearest day, the air between us and what we were looking acted as hazy screen that interferes with our ability to see distant shapes clearly. In Manet picture, the presence of a waiting station and modern dressed humans reflects that humankind by then conformed to civilization. Furthermore, the railway appears on the upper register with a careful representation of an industrial town. The Paris scene is shown with vapour in the background, possibly with locomotives which are shown from invisible in the painting of iron fence in the middle group. To the public, these images are symbolic of modernity. Manet is seen as a presentation of the beauty of an archaic city. The panels of the lower register extend the symbolism of the upper hand, where saints arrive from the four corners of the art. Conclusion It is clear from the research that art from medieval renaissance times was rich given that different artists pursued their own styles independently. The research has scrutinized the primary picture by Eduordo Manet the railway to the secondary picture. It is clear that culture heavily influenced the pictures; however this did not limit the development of artistic ideas. As well, artistic aspects such as symbolism played a crucial part in the development of the style. In summary, it is wise to agree with the indifference of the artists. Future research should attempt to compare the inherent relationships between artistic genres and social, economic and political themes existing at the time.
