The film uses a new technique by not telling the time lapse between the stories that were put together but leaves it to the viewers’ imagination to decide how the story really got along. After the restaurant incident, the film shows another set of characters having different but similar situations. It shows two gang members working for the mysterious Wallace, who sends them to kill people and demand the money they are required to fetch for him. Then, the story focuses on the date of Vincent and Wallace’s wife, exposing the dangerous life of being involved in drug use.

At the same time, the film also introduces another character named Butch, by showing circumstantial incidents of the two criminals, Butch, and Vincent who were soon to meet each other in a “hunt and hunted” situation. After presenting the activities of Vincent, the film also tells the story of Butch who tries to escape from the hands of Wallace. Ultimately, Butch kills Vincent who was sent to kill the former. Before the story ends, the movie brings the viewers back before the killing.

It continues from where the two gangsters pick up the attaché of money which they were supposed to deliver to Wallace. On their way, however, one of them accidentally kills their passenger and so they had to find help from a friend to clean up their mess. Disposing of the car, the two had to take a cab but before going home, they went for a meal at a restaurant. That is where the conclusion is made, presenting the two characters in the same restaurant where the hold-uppers executed their plan.

The film is wonderfully crafted, taking on a new technique that gives viewers a compelling experience. It has brought out the calm and calculating manners of Vincent which are effectively performed by John Travolta. Similarly, his buddy Jules, performed by Samuel Jackson, is portrayed in a realistic manner. The two aforementioned actors are not simply known for their names but also for their great performances which are very evident in the film. Bruce Willis’ rendition of his character as Butch is also well-performed.

Willis’ physical built and facial attributes complement the moodiness of Butch. Uma Thurman on the other hand who played the part of Wallace’s wife has been very natural in her acting. Overall, the cast of characters effectively showed the attributes necessary to bring to life the personages the story required. Presenting the setting, the film shows different shots that make spectators see the big picture and fine details. For instance, in the introduction of the first two characters, medium shots were often used to show the couple who seemed to be innocent and harmless, simply talking over breakfast.

When the camera is focused on either of them, the shots are still medium, showing a general picture of the two characters but at the same time, drawing attention their actions and facial expressions as well as their location simultaneously. In the scene where Vincent and Jules are in the room with their victims, close shots were used and so in other parts of the movie. The technique brings the face to the viewer’s attention and makes facial expressions the focus of the shot, taking the viewer away from the scene to concentrate on the actor.

Movies are not like written stories wherein the thoughts and emotions are understood through descriptive words. Therefore such shots are used instead to let the audience understand what is not verbally expressed in the movie. Long shots are also used all over the movie to give a bird’s eye view of the descriptions of the setting. Lastly, to complete an engaging movie, the director used effective cinematography. The lighting was just right for the scenes being portrayed, making them realistic.

The movement of characters, as well as the cameramen, produced a believable execution. The film uses different camera angles to show the necessary perceivable elements such as facial expressions to relate emotions that complete the actions and voices of characters. Camera movements showing front views then side and back views do not only make viewers see the setting through the cameraman’s angle of vision but also makes an atmosphere wherein one feels he is also in the scene.
