Personal ment on "London (Multiple Exposure Nude)" November 29, Personal ment on "London (Multiple Exposure Nude)" Introduction. Art can be defined in several ways. The research topic is art interpretation. Specifically, the research includes nude picture art. Different individuals have different interpretations of an art piece. Culture plays a vital role in art appreciation. The art viewers catapult a piece of artwork to masterpiece level (Fariello1). Body. When I visited the Metropolitan Museum, I was very interested to learn more about the Bill Brandt masterpieces. The masterpiece collection is entitled London (Multiple Exposure Nude). I often wondered why an artist could stand still and focus creating a masterpiece in such an awkward situation. The awkward situation cropped up when the artist, Bill Brandt, had to control his carnal desires in the name of art. It is but normal for a man to be sexually aroused when seeing a naked woman. The Bill Brandt photograph of a naked woman was done in 1956, several long years ago. The picture is done in the photo genre of that time period, black and white format. Judging from the naked lady’s position, the girl seems to be conscious. The artist has been acknowledged as an expert in the photography art segment. The author focuses on class stratification during the 1930s. His artistic training included an apprentice job under the famous Man Ray. The apprenticeship job occurred in 1929. The Man Ray tutelage influenced the art style and concepts of Bill Brandt. Man Ray was a Surrealist painter. Regarding the art piece, the picture uses a Gelatin Silver Print with applied media. The image has a 23.2 cm by 19.7 cm size. The frame is 50.8 cm by 50 cm. the art genre is photograph. The Metropolitan Museum houses masterpieces. Since the photograph is included as one of the photograph exhibits, the museum acknowledges that the picture is a masterpiece, in its own rightful genre. What is most amusing about the nude picture is that Bill Brandt prefers to create pictures that w ill attract attention. Understandably, Bill Brandt used the most up to date picture taking equipment during his time period. Bill Brandt’s equipment is the Kodak police camera type. The camera had a fish eye feature. Watching the nude woman’s picture brings both chills and excitement. The chills crop up whenever I try to decipher the hidden messages of the naked woman photo picture creator Bill Brandt. The three hands trigger the chills to spread throughout my perplexed body. Excitement covers my entire body as I admire the ease and confidence of Mr. Bill Brandt as he created the above picture of the woman with not clothes covering her naked body. After taking the pictures, Bill Brandt would experiment with the negatives. Bill Brandt used the same negative of the picture two times. By doing so, Bill Brandt was able to create an out of this world or abnormal picture. In the nude woman’s picture, the woman appears to have three hands. One of the hands is well rested on a table. The woman’s right hand is used to cover her private parts. A second hand, the left hand, seems to be tucked behind her back and touching her right hand. A third hand shows a shadow or silhouette of another left hand rested on top of her right breast. Bill Brandt used graphite to retouch or create an unnatural picture of a normal woman (http://metmuseum.org/Collections). Also, Bill Brandt was successful in creating a hallucination picture of the woman (Delany 242). Just as in any hallucination, the image is just the pigment of the viewers’ observation. Hallucinations may show pictures or images of unrealistic situations. Bill Brandt often took pictures of nude women in natural locations. Some of Bill Brandt beach photos occurred in East Essex coast. Using a police camera, Bill Brandt learned from a friendly police officer how to use his newly bought police camera. Bill Brandt also took pictures of naked women in Normandy and Southern France. Further, Bill Brandt does not vividly explain why he chose to include abnormally images as part of his wide range of artistic masterpieces. Of all his nude photo women subjects, Bill Brandt fell madly obsessed with taking the naked picture of Marjorie. Bill Brandt would set up his nude picture collections and give them identifying names. For example, one Bill Brandt nude picture collection was entitled Perspectives of Nudes. The pictures were shot between 1945 to 1980 (Delany 242). Furthermore, the Bill Brandt picture shows that there is a shadow of the woman’s body. The shadow gives strong evidence of the light comes from the camera’s flash bulb. The old cameras of the 1930s can have a flashbulb. The flash bulb ensures that there is enough light to ensure the final product is a vivid picture of the picture’s subject or subjects (http://metmuseum.org/Collections). In addition, the picture should be changed. The picture should be adjusted to remove the hallucinations. The creator, Bill Brandt, should remove the eerie or out of place portions of the picture. To make a more realistic, Bill Brandt should not play or abuse the negatives of the film. Many people may admire the use of negatives to create an abnormal picture. However, many individuals prefer seeing more realistic pictures (http://metmuseum.org/Collections). In addition, surrealism includes sprinklings of seductiveness. The picture of the naked woman depicts the woman is seductive. In addition, the picture shows the boundaries between the black and white parts of the picture. Surrealism also shows an undefined relationship. The inclusion of the three hands indicates that the creator, Bill Brandt, wants to project an unreal story that the woman has three hands. Some members of society classify many unrealistic pictures as very surreal (Richardson 2). Further, nude pictures started during the prehistoric past (Baetens 12). Some prehistoric caves included nude drawing of male and female members of the community. Many Greek and Roman drawings and sculptures included nude men and women. The abundant pictures of nude women clearly show that there is a steady and growing market for nude pictures. As proof, playboy generated lots of magazine sales by showing pictures of naked women. The invention of 19th century photography augmented the public’s demand for naked pictures. The naked pictures showed that the picture viewers are normally fascinated by the beautiful naked bodies of women. In addition, the use of nude women as models is used to fill the sensual fantasies of the male members of society. One may call male viewers of the nude photos as perverts. One may call the nude pictures’ audiences as depraved. However, beauty is often in the eyes of the beholder. In the similar fashion, the taking of nude pictures is dependent on the picture taker’s personal reasons for engaging in such an activity (Baetens 12). Further, the nude art form became popular during the Renaissance period. Many of the Italian masters used the naked female body as the object of their canvasses, sculptures and other images. Rembrandt was one of the famous nude art experts. Rembrandt often used nude Italian models for his art masterpieces. Rubens and Goltzens were also famous artists in the same genre (Baetens 12). Also, the artists of that time period viewed the female body as beautiful, especially when it is naked. Apelles is one of the famous nude painters of that time period. Pliny is also another famous nude painter. Apelles, a world famous painter emphasized the Venus had a beautiful female body, a perfect subject for the artists. Van Mander insists that Apelles is one of the famous painters of nude women’s bodies (Sluijter 17). Conclusion. Based on the above scrutiny, art can be defined in several ways. People belonging to a conservative culture may abhor the naked women’s picture. On the other hand, the members of the liberated group’s culture may not accept the nude girl’s picture. Bill Brandt’s penchant for nude women’s may create different or biased opinions Culture plays a vital role in art appreciation. Evidently, the art viewers’ interpretation of the art object may propel a mere picture to masterpiece level. Works Cited Baetens, Pascal. Nude Photography. New York: Penguin Press, 2007.
