On a second thought, however, perhaps an extravaganza such as the museum was required to give people optimism and a chance to think on the subject of their life and art to act as a respite (Poore, 2010). William Nelson Rockhill, an art collector and a successful businessman got the ball rolling for the museum when he set in his will that his estate to be sold and the money to be used for purchasing art for public viewing when the last living member from his family died which consisted of his wife and daughter.
