Leonardo Da Vinci’s “The Last Supper” Leonardo Da Vinci’s “The Last Supper” It is a very well-known fact that Da Vinci’s painting “The Last Supper” is one of his most renowned and astonishing works. As the title of the painting suggests, it describes the supper of Jesus and his disciples prior to the event of his betrayal by Judas which is announced on the depicted supper. (Puchko, 2015). The painting, logically, depicts thirteen persons: Jesus Christ and his twelve disciples.
It is possible to distinguish them in the groups of three people, and from left to right their names are as follows: Bartholomew, James, Andrew (the first group), Judas, Peter, John (the second group), Thomas, James, Philip (the third group), and Matthew, Jude, and Simon (the last group), and Jesus is in the center, between John and Thomas. The communion cup is the thing which is widely debated when it comes to the mentioned painting. It is possible to state that it is located at the right hand of Jesus and looks like a wine glass.
(Puchko, 2015). The history of the painting is as follows. It is reported that Leonardo da Vinci started his work on it in 1495, and the year of completion is deemed 1498. (Biblioteca Pleyades, 2015). An interesting fact about the painting is that it is not located in a museum, but rather in a convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie, in the city of Milan, Italy. (Puchko, 2015). I believe that this masterpiece is capable of conveying the drama of the moment it depicts, and that the perspective that has been chosen by the painter perfectly demonstrates an entire range of the emotions and opinions of all the characters on the painting.
