Critical of Taegukgi: The Brotherhood of War - Movie Review Example

The two brother characters are Jin-tae and his younger brother Jin-sok. The title best suits the movie as the main characters being featured in most scenes are the two brothers in an action-packed war drama in which their love and faith undergo various tests time after time. This study purposes to critically review the film “The Brotherhood of War” and discus how the subject is portrayed in it. In most films there is always victorious glory of good side, this is not the case with The Brotherhood of War.

In this film, it is all about the powerful authorities driving innocent people into war to meet their tragic death in the name of defending their nation. Probably this is what the director is trying to bring out to the viewers. The worst case for the two brothers is that they are drafted to the South Korean Army even without training. This sounds more like a death sentence. First it is Jin-sok who if forced against his will to join the army. Since his elder brother Jin-tae cares about him so much and is willing to cross the world for him, Jin-tae is forced to earn a national medal of recognition so that his brother gets freed from the bloody war.

We can now assume the presumed audience of The Brotherhood of War is left to learn two things up-to this point. The first thing to learn is the recklessness of those in power, it is very unfair how they are tasking Jin-tae with something close to impossible and could very well cause his death. This is due to the fact that he never underwent training. Secondly, the theme of love portrays how much family is meant to support one another. This is one part that gets the emotional tears of the audience flowing.

We could therefore say that based on history, the government of Korea has rather been reckless with her citizens.
