Indeed, the black color is used as the basic color, so the people who look at the picture are able to use their imagination and will it with the appropriate colors. What is more important is that the author was able to use different shade in order to depict different parts of horse.
Finally, I liked the picture because it is very simple and simultaneously complex. At first sight, one might suggest that it depicts a horse that is running. However, as one looks at the picture longer, one starts asking questions like Why is the horse running?, Where is it running?, What is it running from?.
