The occurrence of conflict between the Mexican-American War was somehow resolved by the application of the Gadsden Purchase. The Treaty attempted to resolve the issue of war between Mexico and America and delivered land essential for a transcontinental railroad in the southern parts. It is true that, the application of this agreement has helped to reduce the negative outcome of the war. In February 1848, the Mexican-American war was formally ended by the treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. Over the next years, the tension between the United States and the Government of Mexico continued to rumble. The Gadsden Purchase treaty helped to settle the occurrence of dispute on Texas. The Gadsden Purchase included lands west of the Rio Grande and south of the Gila River. The purpose of the Treaty is for the construction of transcontinental railroad in United States along a southern road. The Gadsden Purchase is also linked to the settlement of the border issues. The key boundaries of the United States of American have been settled by the implementation of the Gadsden Purchase. The Mexican army was defeated by the Americans in a number of battles that forced Mexicans to surrender. The war was considered by the Massachusetts as a crime. In 1848, the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo helped to provide half-a-million square miles to United States (Tate, 2013). The line of the Gila River and the Rio Grande became international border. Moreover, the formally gave away of additional territory was not accepted by President Polk. On September 15, 1853, James Gadsden met with Santa Anna. A verbal instruction has been sent by President Pierce for Gadsden. An agent for United States investors, Christopher Ward was the one who took verbal instruction to Gadsden. The instructions gave negotiation option for Gadsden for a greater share of northern Mexico to 15 million dollars and Lower California for 50 million dollars. The instruction of the President Pierce to sell large portion of Mexico was refused by Santa Anna. Santa Anna wanted to gather money to reduce the ongoing rebellions. This is the reason behind the application of treaty between Gadsden and Santa Anna. Mexican border was heavily raided by Americans. The Treaty was also aimed to stipulate the United States Government to prevent the American raid. The Gadsden Purchase also voided the responsibility of United States for Native American attacks. Southern politicians wanted to secure the railroad path and approve the treaty for the betterment of the both countries. The United States payment has caused a severe tension on the occurrence of new border dispute. The pivotal aim of the Treaty was to nullify the Americans raids and void United States responsibility on the attacks. But the treaty failed to live up to the expectation. It failed to resolve the border attacks and issues surrounding the financial claims. Question F: Significance of Joaquin Murieta Joaquin Murieta is also called as the Robin Hood of El Dorado or the Mexican Robin Hood. Joaquin Murieta was viewed as on the influential figure in California and considered as a Mexican patriot. According to the Association of Descendants, Joaquin Murieta only desired to recover and salvage the part of Mexico. At the time of treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, the part of Mexico was lost to the United States. The treaty was entitled to settle the war between the Mexican Republic and United States of America. In the process of treaty, large part of Mexico was handed to the United States as a part of friendship and peace. Joaquin Murieta was one of the pivotal characters that stood against the settlement of large portion of Mexico. Mexicans living in California are loyal and huge follower of Joaquin Murieta. They saw Murieta as a savior of the wrongdoings at the time of Anglo-American issues. According to John Rollin Ridge, Joaquin Murieta was a young Sonoran who was enthusiastic and was tired of the uncertainty of the regular cause of state of affairs. Americans badly mistreated the Mexican population of California. This result of mistreatment leads to the emergence of vicious crime inside the country. It is fact that many of the criminals for the occurrence of vicious crimes took the name of Joaquin Murieta. This is the way the legend of Joaquin Murieta grew and became popularity. Joaquin Murieta came in to prominence by the introduction of novel by John Ridge. The author provides a vivid description of the life and adventure of Joaquin Murieta and was regarded as a man of noble and generous nature and folk hero. Joaquin Murieta provides a vehicle for the challenging paradigms of isolationism and nationalist exceptionalism. The arrival of Foreign Miners tax in California has ignited Murrieta brothers to reduce the threats (Garrett, 2009). Anglo-Saxon neighbors stated that it is illegal for the Mexicans staying in California to hold a claim for Foreign Miners Tax. Eventually, they were forced to off their claim and became harder to hold any claim. Joaquin Murieta was angry and forced to change their life in to crime. They began to fight for their claim against an illegal law for Mexicans. According to Joaquin Murieta, the life of Mexicans in California was turning out to be dramatic at the time of arrival of Foreign Miners Tax. Moreover, Murrieta brother prey upon individuals who forced them to off their claims of miners tax. The Five Joaquin’s was formed by Joaquin Murieta that was responsible for murders, cattle rustling and robberies. The event occurs at the time of Gold Rush era. The tale of crime spree was occurred at the emergence of Foreign Miners Tax. According to the history of American arts, Joaquin Murieta is regarded as one of the significant character that symbolized the resistance of the domination of Anglo-American. The tale of Joaquin Murieta created a sense of resistance towards the Mexicans who are living in California. Question G: The Cart War (1857) In 1857, Cart War erupted and created international and national repercussions. Historians believe that pivotal reason behind the occurrence of Cart War is racial hostilities and ethnic of Texans. Moreover, the underlying reasons of the event are exacerbated by the white anger over the sympathy of Mexican and the ethnocentrism of the know-nothing party. The series of armed raids by Anglo neighbors of Tejano against Tejano cartmen ends in an ethnic business enterprise which was profitable and promises ascendancy of Anglo economic in the state. In 1855, the occurrence of incident on United States- Mexican border led to the beginning of assaults. This dramatic event of assault created havoc in the relationship between Mexico and United States. The prime intention of Anglo teamsters is to create a successful plan that can implement to take over the profitable trade between the San Antonio and coast. In the history of Texas, the occurrence of the Cart War event is regarded as one of the most violent incident that is encountered between Mexicans and Anglos. During the time of First World War, some part of the Mexican American community in southwestern states and Texas began to believe that they are part of the United States. During early twentieth century, many historians demonstrate that gradual acculturation of Hispanic Texans and partial involvement in the cultural life, economic and political life of the state. Anglo teamsters were ineffective to compete economically. This is the reason which made Anglo freighters violent and launch attacks. A series of attacks launched by Anglo freighters, stealing freight, destroying oxcarts of Mexicans and carnage certain carters. The effort made my local officials to stop the violence was minimal. The violent encounter of the Cart war occurred at Antonio-Indianola Road. Mexicans were attacked and outlawed by Anglo teamsters to relocate and move them from the transportation business as it was lucrative (Meier & Ribera, 2012). In the interior of Texas, Tejanos and Mexicans have been successful to build a business of merchandise and hauling food. Mexicans used oxcarts to move freight cheaply and rapidly to compete against Anglo. Some of the Anglos reacted by stealing freights, destroying Mexicans oxcarts and killing number of Mexicans. In 1855, the violence occurred on Mexicans carters. But the eruption of sustained violence started in the year 1857. The eruption of the Cart War is regarded by San Antonio and the coast as the intolerable nuisance. Some of the newspapers such as San Antonio Herald and Austin Southern Intelligencer expressed their concern regarding the occurrence of war would lead to the escalation of prices. Austin Southern Intelligencer also expressed concern that attack on weak race can lead to the start of war between rich and poor. The spread of news regarding the issue of violence reached Manuel Robles Pezuela, the Mexican minister. On October 14, the Mexican minister objected the concern to the Secretary of State. Moreover, Lewis Cass, the Secretary of State protested the concern to the Texas governor to nullify the issue and end the conflicts.
