The correlation between parents’ education levels and child obesity This study done across several countries, seeks to study the relationship between the levels of education of a parent and whether or not his/her child develops obesity. Problem statementParents that have low education levels put their children at risk of developing obesity (News Medical, 2013). In fact the children whose parents’ education levels are considered low or medium eat a lot more sweets and processed foods. The children from socio-cultural groups that are less advantaged run a great risk of becoming overweight.

The World Health Organization-WHO (as cited in News Medical, 2013) documented that close to 40 million children who were overweight in 2010 were below 5 years. Research proposalIt is important to further study the relationship between how much education a parent has and the diet they expose their children to. This study observes the type of food the children of parents with less education levels eat (News Medical, 2013).The study will involve children between the ages of two and nine (News Medical, 2013).

They will be selected from several countries namely Belgium, Cyprus, Estonia, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Spain and Sweden. Different kinds of foods offered to children by different parents need to be explored. Furthermore, the notion that parents that have had more education feed their children better quality foods is studied. (News Medical, 2013) cites fruits, vegetables, whole meal bread, fish, eggs and poultry to be among the foods that are considered healthy. Nutritionists recommended that children who are above two years should be treated as adults and served with well-balanced diets.
