Download file to see previous pages... The film traces the growing and ironic amity between Chinese villagers and two prisoners of war who by luck were deposited into their care. The prisoners were one wounded Japanese older named Teriyuki Kagawa.
According to the film a young widow gets interrupted by door knock where a stranger with a gun identifies himself only as “me” and then deposits two prisoners who are tied up in sacks announcing he would return to get them back at the Chinese New Year. He warns the village that if they escape the repercussions shall be dire. The two soldiers Kagawa Teruyuki and his translator-Dong Hanchen, Kagawa who is eager to die for the said Japanese imperial cause makes a suicide attempt but fails he then tries to provoke his captors into having them give him the honor of death by hurling inflammatory invectives. However, his interpreter who is desperate to save his life deliberately translates the insults into friendly overtures and praises to the villagers this makes which make them treat the soldiers well with food water and shelter.
There was no sign of a man after many days a man who deposited the prisoners, alternatively the villager though reluctantly choose to execute them where the execution job falls in the hands of Ma Dasan who instead hides them in a recess in the great wall where he visits them regularly t bring them food and water .the prisoner then decides to escape where they are captured by the villagers who learn about Ma’s secret. The villager then decides to hire an assassin from town to carry out the deed. Ma seeks the help of a former imperial executioner named Stroke Liu who declines to kill the prisoner. Hanaya who by then had lost his defiance and was filled with gratitude to the village promises to gibe then two wagons of grains on their release.
