Week 5 Reflection Perception Keys Here PERCEPTION KEY: Guggenheim Museum (Martin & Jacobus Does the exterior of the building harmonize with the interior?Answer:Yes. The exterior of the building harmonizes its interior. Previously, the exterior was said to be exaggerated compared to its interior. It was said that what was hung inside was so inferior as compared to the exterior of the building. In the later years, there was a reconstruction on the building under the guidance of several architects.
They made sure that Guggenheim’s idea of the building was maintained. People always marvel at the spiral ramps on the outside and the curves in the inside. This makes the interior to harmonize with the exterior.2. Does the form reveal the building as an art museum?Answer:Yes. The form reveals the building as an art museum. This is so because, the ‘must see’ impressive structure representing the building, is an art in itself. It largely display the artistic ways of the master brains behind the building.3. Elevators take us to the top of the building, and then we can participate with the exhibited works of art by walking down the spiraling ramp.
This enables us to see each work from many perspectives. Does this seem to you to be an interesting, efficient, and comfortable way of exhibiting works of art? Answer:Yes, this does seem to me as an interesting, efficient and comfortable way of exhibiting works of art. This is so because; the building in itself is enormous. So, it is advisable for one to start from the top going to the bottom as is an assured way out of the building. This will save one lots of energy and hence wont tire earlier hence will have a better view of the exhibitions.
As we all know, it is easier to go down a hill that climbing it. 4. The front of the museum faces Fifth Avenue. The surrounding buildings are tall rectangular structures evenly lined up along the sidewalks. If possible, visit the site. Did Wright succeed in bringing his museum into a harmonious spatial relationship with these other buildings? Or was his purpose perhaps to make his museum stand out in sharp contrast, like a plant among inorganic shapes? But if so, does the museum fit successfully into the spatial context – “the power and embrace of the positioned interrelationships of things”?
Answer: The major aim of Wright erecting his building next to ordinary looking buildings was to make his museum stand out in spiky contrast. This was to make it more eye catching like a rose among daffodils. The museum fits successfully into the spatial context this is so because, it made it look so unique hence bringing out its popularity (Martin & Jacobus, 2011).5. Originally the museum was to have been situated in Central Park. Do you think a park site would have been better than its present site? Why? Answer:I don’t think that a park site would have been a better site for the building compared to its current ground.
This is so because, the nature of the building itself is so eye catching that no matter where it is built; its uniqueness would lead people to it.Criticism of the Guggenheim MuseumGuggenheim museum located is New York in Manhattan, Upper East Side. It stands as a work of art of Solomon R. Guggenheim. It is a unique spiral ramping building containing of various art works. It widens from the top and spirals narrowly at the bottom. The ceiling of the building opens up to the heavens. It has been constructed using a transparent material similar to the windows in cathedral rose.
The inside of the building has been used to display different art works. The building is a museum on its own. This is due to the effort that Wright and the architects put in it. Its massive and impressive eye catching nature makes it to be historic. Just as the exterior, the interior harmoniously complements the interior. The building s so fascinating that people majorly visit it to view its uniqueness rather than the work of art displayed in it. The impressionist and post impressionist work of art displayed in the building ties well with the taste of the building.
This is so because, the work of impressionist is always interesting and good to look at hence beautifully entices one’s journey from the top spiraling to the bottom. The museum has evolved into an enlightening representation of culture. It magnificently stand s to show case how far architecture can be extended to. It is also s great symbol of beauty and elegance that would not pass unnoticed. ReferencesMartin, F. D., & Jacobus, L.
