Kant defines art as “a kind of representation that is purposive in itself and, though without an end, nevertheless promotes the cultivation of the mental powers for sociable communication” (Adajian, 2007).
Definition 2:
“A work of art is an artifact of a kind created to be presented to an artworld public” (Kamhi, 1971).
Definition 3:
Dante says that “Art as far as it has the ability, follows nature, as a pupil imitates his master so that Art must be as it were a descendant of God" (Laird, 1963).
Based on the above definitions, a piece of art can be construed as something that: has a purpose for existing, contains a message, and appeals to an audience because of its aesthetic qualities.

One of the most famous paintings, the Mona Lisa, by Leonardo Da Vinci is a great example of a work of art.
