The recession seems to bring out the best in fashion designers. What were the highlights of Paris fashion week this October? Most stunningly Alexander McQueen offered bizarre and terrifying shoes which resembled armadillos in both shape and size and his dresses were technical works of art – the embodiment of evolution, the play of imagination including alien, insect, and sea creature themes. Sexy appearances were noticeable by Dior and Balmain and Chanel, Vuitton, Miu Miu bets went to the youthful looks. High chic is reserved for Givenchy and Celine.

Dior’s show by John Galliano delivered impressive film noir shades with lingerie as outerwear which presumably did not shock anybody. Vuitton’s performance was named “a show for the New Age Traveler. Combining street, hippie, and cyber themes, he meant it to be an antidote to his cocktail punk/couture look of last season" (Fourmont, 2009). Givenchy’s incredibly chic and wearable show pinched with its appearance even the most exhausted attendants. Riccardo Tisci was influenced by Morocco and the 1960s Roman couture. This was flatteringly transformed into diamond-shaped shirts, jackets with exaggerated "V" lapels, and harem pants.
