Arts: Meaning and Intentions The art presented in the paper comes from an exhibition of arts found in Camden arts centre, Arkwright road- London by the artist Dorothy Iannone (Attached in Appendix). The art is an example of contemporary art, which means that the art has been in focus and will continue to be relevant in future. It is a type of art that reflects social consciousness among the audiences. It is among other art works titled heartfelt strings by the same author. It was presented so as to bring out the aspect of retrospection among the audiences who visit the centre. Retrospection is an aspect that is used by giving audiences a reflection to remember past events or occurrences (Griffin, 1999, 10). The art work becomes a representation of a selection of films of the specified actor or producer currently presented in the art centre. Whatever is viewed by the audience will help them remember the events in the film, and will mutually appreciate both the artistic features and what was presented in the film. In general meaning is that it is an extended period that artists have acted upon (Gecey & Vicki, 2012, 79). The audience is expected to remember what transpired in a number of her favourite films which include ‘sacrificial love’ and unconditional love’. The meaning is clear as the film is about Marlene who unconditionally with love waits for Gary Cooper her, husband, to return from a foreign region. The graphics, images, mosaics, paintings and appearance in the art reflects a kind of unconditional love. Retrospection is used to make the audience reflect on what was viewed or expected to be viewed by the use of images, designs and graphics focusing on certain themes, characters and styles in the mentioned films. The artist is using the piece of art to either market, and makes the audience to reflect or wish to watch the entire films. The art is classified as among contemporary art because it represents a film that was produced a decade ago, but it is still being watched and will continue to be watched by the future audiences. The audiences are expected to reflect on the colourful art in respect to the events of the artist films that are currently in show, bringing out what is referred to as visual art (Crowther, 2010, 312). Setting and its relevance The art is pictured and lined (not framed) in well furnished room wall settings. The appearance created is that of a picture painted in the walls. The appearance and features of the art is beautifully displayed, which immediately captures the attention of any person entering the room. Some of the features of artistic work include: clarity, presentation, relevancy and creativity. Relevance is important in meeting exhibitions reasons and themes. The artwork is made relevant to the settings that are intended to be showcased, this can be said to be of two sides to the settings harbouring the art, and the theoretic or conceptual framework it aims to deliver messages to the audiences. The art settings are well designed and choreographed having a mosaic type of designs, of pieces fitted to the images represented providing a background of it, well fabricated with a variety of bright colours (Chambers, 2007, 322). A mosaic type of art is one that uses different types of materials to represents a number of images, glued together to achieve certain design. When one views the picture art, one may think it is a mosaic but it is a drawing. The artist has used this skill to present a simple type of picture. It may not be a pure artist work but the message has been communicated well and fully. Among the images is an illustration showing a beautiful tower, one that might represents a royal castle and it has some words written on it: ‘let the light from my lighthouse shine on you’. This clearly indicates how the artist makes a comparison with love coming from the heart of any person who is in love (Smithrim & Upitis, 2005, 110). Other settings or features in the art are clear illustrations of a modernized society with classic, beautiful attires and designs. Nude omens with beautiful wings providing an environment of contrast between a young well groomed lady and an older un-groomed lady which the films did capture regarding the actors. From the film it shows that the current woman who is married does not look after herself compared to the years before she was married. Behind the women there is an image of a man who from the illustration is as if he is making a comparison between the huge woman and the nude lady (Gecey & Karaminas, 2012, 81). The setting where the piece of art is located is one of the rooms in Grade II listed buildings constructed at Hampstead central library. There are a number of arts pictured in the walls, spread out in the walls allowing audiences to view them with ease. The art being an A3 size landscape image is well displayed in the walls giving space for other pictures to be displayed (Young, 2002, 67). The setting of a piece of art is appropriate for it allows the audience time to study and reflect on it despite it not having any chairs or tables. It is an empty room that give an allowance for a number of audiences to be appropriately accommodated in the room. The colourful display of the art brings in calmness and attractiveness in the exhibition room. The audience will be encouraged to take some time to understand and conceptualize on the displayed art. The room settings compliment other types of arts in the room as it is painted of a light cream colour in the walls. The room setting is furnished and arranged in a way that it does distract or create a non-conducive environment to the arts displayed in the walls. The persons or authorities in charge of the gallery researched upon the settings of the room, as it can easily accommodate more than 90 pictures without deviating from the meanings of the art gallery (Griffin, 1999 pp, 11). Audience and their Significance The location and settings of the art is on place which was once a library centre. This implies that the main focus was to capture readers who were interested in reading and watching visual arts. The location of the art gallery at Camden Arts Centre in 1965 has become a centre which provides the local communities with craft and art classes. This means that the audience who were interested with art and craft related studies could visit the facility. Through the various artistic and craft classes, new talents have emerged with new artistic works. This all along has welcomed an international survey exhibition system (Young, 2002 pp, 56). Due to the survey exhibition, parts of the audience to the centre have been internationally renowned artists who come to identify some of the emerging talents by appreciating their work. Other directors, artists, writers of films and visual arts can be part of the audience as they can use the art to conceptualize on the themes of their respective films. Scholars who are fashion persons and institutions can take part in the learning process as they can see how simple graphics have been used to create mosaic like type of image, as well how fashion can be presented in a simple way using portraits and pictures. But most significantly are lovers of films who are encouraged to watch more of such films presented in a manner in which the art was presented (Smithrim & Upitis, 2005 pp, 126) The contemporary art displayed brings out a different dimension to the audience, in many cases artistic features related to daily happenings, events and properties. The artistic features in the work creates an appetising urge to watch the film, it then in a way becomes an advertisement to the stated films. The features and characteristics of the film show that adult audience is expected to be the audience of the film or art. But, the way artistic features, styles and designs have been used does not present significant overview look that does not bring clear meanings to the younger audiences and further view of the film can bring clear view of love. The art is an encouragement to new or emerging artists as part of audiences to use other artistic styles like retrospection in their respective artistic works so as to be creative in what is to be achieved and to capture majority of other the audience (Gecey & Karaminas, 2012 pp, 81). The artistic images and graphics are designed, drawn, fabricated and presented to significantly present a number of features, educative aspects, and knowledge.
