The Field Trip in Miami One of my hobbies is that I like touring places. I am an adventurous person who keeps on visiting different places to have a first-hand experience on the amazing and fabulous scenes both within and out of Florida. For this reason, when I got the opportunity, I, together my friend Josh, Diana and Caleb, organized for a very elaborate trip in which I traversed Miami. During this trip, we visited the Fruit and Spice Park; Oolite Restaurant and Bar; the Farmers’ Market; and the Sister Farm. This trip was necessary because it would fulfill our dream of visiting these sceneries so as to enjoy the good things there. A Visit to the Fruit and Spice Park On the first day of our trip, we visited the Fruit and Spice Park. This is a very large tropical botanical garden located at Miami. The 37-acre park is a public facility under the full ownership and management of the Miami Dade County Park and Recreation Open Space. Indeed, a visit to this park was worthwhile because it had lots of benefits to us. Apart from experiencing the pleasant tropical climate at the garden, we got an ample opportunity to see a lot of plants that we had never seen before. These consisted of different varieties of spices, fruits, nuts, vegetables, herbs and a wide range of plant specimens. It was so interesting to visit the park because it has a large pool of plant species to enjoy viewing. Thus, by being active tourists, we had to see and learn much about the numerous species of bamboo, bananas and mango that are show cased at the park. After enjoying the beauty of the Fruit and Spice Park, we spent the rest of the time sampling and having a taste of the variety of foods and drinks offered at the garden. Here, we ate a well-prepared meal of banana salsa that was served along side chips, pumpkins, starfood, guava, avocados and jackfruits. This was a very sweet food that not only satisfied us, but left us yearning for more. What pleased me most is that the food was prepared using the ingredients from the park thus becoming purely natural. Meanwhile, I was particularly amazed by the Miranda fruit that I tasted at the end of our trip. After hearing about it for so long, I just could not believe that the an exotic berry could actually make me to taste a sour food as sweet one for up to two hours after its consumption. A Visit to Oolite Restaurant and Bar After leaving the Fruit and Spice Park, we proceeded to Oolite Restaurant and Bar, Lincoln Road, Miami. Here, we had a chance to eat and drink a lot of foods and drinks as well as enjoying the beauty of this great facility. In terms of food, I would like to point out that the restaurant offers one of the best services in the city. After selecting our table, we warmly welcomed by a friendly waitress who took our order and served us with pizza, fresh lemonade strawberry and wine. Later, we were served with a delicious dish of goat cheese which was sold to us as a cheap price of only $8. This was a great experience as it enabled us to come to this great pizza joint to enjoy the special cuisine offered here. Besides enjoying our drinks and dishes, we got an opportunity to interact with the restaurant staff and make direct observations on the organization of the kitchen and the entire process of preparing these popular healthy organic dishes. Most interestingly, we interacted with Chef Kris Wessel and saw how he lobbies his team of cooks to work in a spotlessly clean kitchen fully equipped with modern facilities for boiling, baking and frying food. Also, I was impressed by the arrangement of the restaurant which has got well-designed sufficient high tables and stools to provide pleasurable and comfortable moments to the guests. Surely, Oolite Restaurant and Bar is the place to be. It has all that everyone wants to get in a typical bar. A Visit to the Farmer’s Market Our next destination was the Farmer’s Market located at the ever busy Lincoln Road, Miami. Here, we had planned to visit this flamboyant market to interact with the local farmers and food vendors; and also enjoy the market by having a taste of some of the foods sold there. Since the market has its unique schedule, we had to organize our trip on a market day so as to catch up with the farmers and food vendors whom we targeting. So, since we had to be punctual, we had to reach the market at exactly 10:00 am. We had to arm ourselves with our sunglasses because the market does not have a lot of shades. After our arrival, we found one of the local food vendors who warmly welcomed us then helped us to tour around the market. This was a very beautiful place because it had lots of things to enjoy and admire. We saw a large pool of farm produce including vegetables, fruits, coffee, flowers, honey, bread and jam, just to mention, but a few. At the same time, we saw a cooking demo organized by the local chefs who not only prepared local, but also offered Italian and Indian cuisine. This encouraged us to buy a dish of rice and tomato, which we really enjoyed. However, one other thing I would like to say about this market is that it does not only provide room for displaying and selling farm produce, but also offers an educational and entertaining scene that can be so suitable for a picnic. A Visit to the Three Sister Farm After enjoying all these, we headed to the Three Sister Farm to finalize our trip. Here, we also managed to enjoy as well. I must admit that this was a very attractive facility that composed of a green environment, permaculture, cool breeze and a properly designed two-storey tiki hut fully equipped with different sizes of tables with a capacity up to 20 persons per each. After being welcomed and guided by a farmer, we sat down to drink sorrel and enjoy a dish of fresh pizza that was prepared using papaya, rice, arugura, cucumber, strawberry, jackfruit and yucca fries all cooked by a legendary Chef Jon Gambino. All these made our field trip to be a memorable and fruitful one that we will never forget about in our life. Read More
