Globally, the issue of nuclear energy and the use of power generated from it is a debatable topic. There are countries that oppose the utilization of nuclear energy while there are others that have accepted it and are using nuclear energy to counter the energy crisis. “Seventy nuclear reactors are under construction worldwide. Twenty-seven of those are in China, ten are in Russia, and six are in India. With few exceptions, these new reactors are of the large light water type that dominates today’s commercial fleet, producing roughly 75% of the electricity in France, 20% in the United States, 18% in the United Kingdom, and 17% in Germany” (Abdulla and Morgan). This points out that the superpowers of the world are major players in the shifting economy towards nuclear power as a source of energy to counter the energy crisis. The strategy of using nuclear energy as an alternate energy source is being considered by the Middle East where Bahrain intended to have nuclear by the year 2017 but then later dropped the plan due to difficulties in completing the plan (Colombo 187). Iran, however, is in the limelight these days for trying to attain nuclear power as a way of energy source and has faced many sanctions and restrictions from the western community. Iran claims that the uranium it will use in the centrifuges is for the purpose of energy generation but the world seems to think that it will be for the generation of a nuclear weapon and hence bring about global harm (The Economist).

This brief insight provides a picture of the ongoing trend of using nuclear energy as a source to tackle the power crisis and sheds the light on the issue regarding how far the world is progressing. The benefits of nuclear energy are numerous because it is cheap and does not pose much threat to the environment as compared to the burning of natural carbon emission which has resulted in global warming and is now speeding up the process of the warming and the negative effects associated with it. However, the issue of using nuclear energy is not very easy because history has proven time and time again that small mistakes can cause big accidents. ...Download file to see next pagesRead More

CHECK THESE SAMPLES OF Global Issues of Nuclear Energy

Nuclear Energy

Solar energy is the biggest source of energy. Electrical energy can be generated directly from solar energy by employing solar photo voltaic panels. Electrical energy can also be produced by focusing multiple beams of light at a point to generate electrical energy using the thermal energy produced by focused beams. Solar energy has the biggest potential among all the renewable sources of energy. A photo voltaic solar panel employs semiconductor material, which generate electricity when photons strike its surface. If there are solar panels on every home, the need of energy can be fulfilled (West 2011). A wind generator generates electrical power by utilizing aerodynamic energy of the wind and converting it to electrical energy. Wh...

Into a Clean and Safe Method of Manufacturing Power: Nuclear Energy

Nuclear energy as a form of energy is a relatively new form of energy and the first reactor was created only in the twentieth century. As a result of this, many of the problems that are a part of this technology are yet to be resolved. This, however, does not mean that research in this field is completely stopped. Nuclear energy is a form of energy that is produced due to nuclear reactions. The process of fission is used to split the nuclei of uranium atoms that cause an incredible amount of energy to be released. The energy that is thus released is then harnessed and used for other purposes. The immense amount of energy that is released needs to be collected in a safe manner. If this is not done, the risk of an explosion looms la...

... in the atmosphere. Carbonic gas, which is known as a common and the most dangerous greenhouse gas resulting from emissions emanating from the extensive use of fossil fuels such as petroleum and coal, has immensely contributed to extensive global warming aspect. The process of global warming has posed a great challenge to the world economy as well as environmental protection issues. There is therefore a great need for the world populations to look for an alternative form of energy with low carbon emissions in order to curb the problems of carbon dioxide emissions. The discovery of nuclear energy, which has low carbon dioxide emission, to replace petroleum fuels and helps reduce the amounts of carbon emission from various countries around...

Nuclear Energy

Fossil fuels currently account for 80% of the electricity generated. And electricity generation is responsible for 40 per cent of those discharges into the atmosphere that are involved in changes in the greenhouse effect. Nuclear energy therefore holds a considerable environmental advantage: it permits the production of very significant quantities of energy, without atmospheric discharges and without emission of greenhouse gases. (Advantages of nuclear energy for the environment)
The oil and natural gas deposits, the traditional and most important energy sources are exhausting day by day and the search for alternate energy sources has already been started. The current oil resources may be lasted for maximum for 40 more years...

Nuclear Energy

... Nuclear energy Nuclear energy comes from the splitting of uranium atoms in a process known as fission, and it produces steam by cooling the fission chambers which is used for electricity manufacture. The process involves many steps, but the major processes are steam production and turning of the turbines to produce electric energy. Fission is basically separating an atom into two atoms and the energy produced during the separation is transformed in massive energy. The current issue of global warming has led to the popularity of nuclear energy since its mitigation is mainly focused on nuclear power. However, nuclear energy has both advantages and disadvantages that should be evaluated in order to gauge the worth of utilizing it. Advantages...

The Dangers of Using Nuclear Power

At first, I typed whole sentences and searched them online. The results that I got through this method were not good and I decided to use short phrases and single words to search. Some of the keywords/ keyword phrases that I used include nuclear energy, nuclear plant, nuclear reactors, nuclear proliferation risks, nuclear environmental degradation, dangers nuclear energy, and radioactive radiations dangers. I relied on the Proquest database and the Internet to complete the research searching mainly for the keywords and narrowing down the searches by dates. The UMUC library resources proved to be quite valuable in my research. I learned how to find journals from the library and used some books from the online electronic reserves...
