Video Critique: World without Mobile Technology Video Critique: World without Mobile Technology Introduction Human life is characterized by habits and patterns of behavior. Most of the times human behavior is a product of socialization and people behave in accordance to societal myths. The importance of myths is derived from its ideological power in which it reinforces and reproduces habits of thought. The way human beings act and think is to some extent constrained by their perception about certain issues in life. Thinking patterns are informed by customs and cultural practices. The human way of doing things become norms, and they are institutionalized. The critical and questioning power of why the things are the way they are is to some extent inhibited by the societal myths. It inhibits creativity and questioning power of the reasons as to why things are the way they are. Myths make human beings forget alternative views of living and different interpretations of the world around them1. This paper aims at offering an ideological critique about specific values and formalized way of thinking about life without the mobile technology. The paper will explore some cultural assumptions made in relation to the mobile technology age and how such assumptions have connection with the critical concepts as explored in the learning module. The paper will question the common knowledge and understanding of the modern day mobile technology and demonstrate alternative thinking based on critical analysis of the naturalized way of common thinking. The video analyzes the challenges that existed prior to the invention of the modern day mobile technology. The interesting videos provoke a clear demonstration of alternative thinking through analysis of some concepts that resulted into the modern day mobile technology. Part of the video is a reflection of the traditional way of delivering mail manually. This part is a critical analysis of the other dark side of life without mobile technology. Human beings invented a mobile technology to simplify the mode of communication. The invention was as a result of challenging the common way of tradition thinking of manual delivery of mails. The invention of mobile phone technology became accepted way of communicating after the invention. It was a naturalized way of communicating and a habitual way of engaging in social relations. The modern day technology has now become a common practice and a pattern of communication to the extent that it has inhibited the reflection and the imagination as reflected in the video2. The video provides a critique of modern day ideology which has embodied the use of mobile technology as a habitual way of communicating. It explores a scenario of imagination of the life without the mobile technology where to receive a message one would require a massager to deliver the mail to the recipient. The video is the reminder of the path to towards the modern day technology. It is a reflection of the origin of the modern day social relation through the use of mobile technology that is a product of critique. Myths make such ideas as presented by the video to lose the memory that led to the creation of the modern mobile technology. It delineates man from history and the memories of socio-economic differences3. The memories are the reminder of the struggle to the modern day life. Myth is ideologically powerful and inhibits human creativity and overlook the alternative way of existence. It is common that most human beings do not imagine life without the mobile technology but the video presents analysis of questioning the modern life. The video is a reflection of the alternative way of thinking and makes the viewers have an interesting picture of the world without modern technology. Human beings cannot realize the importance of the technology without visualizing life without such technology as represented in the video4. The video makes visible the unconscious patterns of modern life. It presents a more conceptual creative way of depiction of life without a mobile phone. The sharing of ideas through social networking can be a challenging task without the use of mobile as presented in a funny character in the video. It is a proof of critical evaluation of the role played by the mobile phone and other gadgets in connecting people globally. It portrays how social relations could be made difficult without the use of modern mobile technology in communicating and sharing of ideas. The video examines the origin of the ideas of the modern day technology. The ideas of social networking were derived from human historical creative ideas of enhancing social relations. The video challenges the human myth in regard to modern patterns of social networking and depicts a picture of life without modern day social network sites. It challenges the assumption commonly made by modern man about the use of technology in communication through exploring the alternative challenges that could have been experienced5. Human life can only be improved through challenging the common ideologies thus improving creativity. Great inventions are made by individuals who defy the culturally acceptable way of thinking and behaving. Enhanced technologies can be invented through exploring alternative way of thinking. Questioning the current myths and ideology that institutionalize certain pattern of thinking will result into invention of better technologies. Alternative thinking will explore the difficulties and the challenges associated with the current patterns of life. Modern patterns of life have gained acceptance and habitual and thus leading to institutionalization of the practices. Contemporary myths and ideologies that have become acceptable may limit the most technological inventions that make the life of human better. Society is dynamic and common practices, and patterns of life keep changing. Great inventions that have led to the modern patterns of life are a result of critique and denaturalization of order of things. Life is more promising, and the change agents are the people who can be able to perceive the myths and ideologies of a society through critique lens6. However for great inventions to be realized people must violate naturalized ideology and question the common knowledge of things. Examining the history of human life and overcoming the underlying assumptions can provide the basis for future creativity7. Myth is a significant concept that refers to de-politicization of values and ideas. It refers to commonly acceptable of doing things without questioning. In the myth, it is common to lose the memory of the origin of the common thinking. Myth makes human beings take things for granted and reduce the questioning power. The importance of myth is anchored on its ideological power. It reinforces specific patterns of behavior and makes them look natural in nature. Myths make a human being to forget alternative views of the world and human existence8. Ideology critique questions the common values and brings out the consciousness of the invisible reproduction of ideas and practices. An understanding of the concepts is important to enhance creativity and promote change in society as highlighted through the analysis of the video. The concepts promote understanding of how change takes place in society and the dangers posed by myth ideologies and institutionalization of such concepts. Conformity to certain patterns of life narrows thinking and discourage creativity. The concepts help the learners to recognize the importance of questioning certain patterns of life as well as values9. Alternative thinking as applied in the critical analysis of the video facilitate creativity and hence enhance human life. Conclusion It is important to offer a critique to the conventional way of thinking since it expands human thinking and creativity. Myths and ideologies make a human being restrict their thinking and inhibit the ability of viewing life differently10. The concepts learned in the module such as ideology discourse; myth and interpellation are important bases of understanding the importance of alternative thinking. Myth makes human beings take things for granted and reduce the questioning power. The importance of myth is anchored on its ideological power. Great inventions are made by individuals who defy the culturally acceptable way of thinking and behaving.
