In this context, rapid prototyping should be considered as part of a successful strategy, offering a significant support to the production process by improving the time required for the completion of the relevant procedure. On the other hand, rapid prototyping is a method that should be primarily examined as all of its parameters. More specifically, rapid prototyping is not just a method used during the production process; it is rather a complex production activity which includes a series of sub-tasks in accordance with the industrial sector in which it is used.

It should be also noticed that rapid prototyping is extensively used in all industrial sectors but particularly in manufacturing in which the introduction of prototyping has helped towards the limitation of the time required for the production of the various parts used in the industry. The development of manufacturing in the modern market is a challenging task, especially if taking into account the rapid changes in technology around the world. In this context, rapid prototyping has been considered to be a valuable method in order to promote manufacturing activities globally.

Towards this direction, Shen (2007, 315) stated that ‘the challenging needs and opportunities of today's global market require unprecedented levels of interoperability to integrate diverse information systems to share knowledge and collaborate among organizations’. In accordance with the above, the requirements set by markets around the world can be met only through the introduction and application of advanced technological methods that allow to a series of innovative plans (suggested by IT developers and other scientists in the IS sector) to interact with manufacturing.
