Extract of sample "Low and High-Expansion Foams for Fire-fighting"

Foams used for fire-fighting are gas-filled bubbles formed from aqueous solutions from liquid forming agents. Essentially, there are three categories of foam characterized by the volume of foam created: low, medium and high-expansion. The first kind has a maximum expansion factor of 20 while medium expansion ranges from 20-200. High expansion foams can have expansion factors as high as 1100. Our concern is on the low and high expansion types.
High expansion foams have very low water content making it suitable to use in settings where damage to equipment by water is highly probable. It is also this characteristic that results in a minimum amount of residue thus minimizing post-fire clean-up requirements. The National Fire Protection Association has stipulated that this type of systems should completely fill and engulf an area where the fire is occurring thus making it suitable in settings where quick suppression is required. The high water content of low expansion foams makes it heavy and possible to be projected to burn material at safe distances. It also has a very high flow index and its wetting effect makes it more suitable in extinguishing fires in burning solid materials. Read More

...?High Level Languages and Low Level Languages By Introduction A language is a source that can be used for communication between two persons. In the same way, computer-programming language is used to communicate between user and computer. By using any programming language, the instructions are provided to the computer to carry out a specific operation. In addition, these instructions are provided to the computer in accordance with the rules of that particular programming language (Norton, 2001; Shelly et al., 2005). This paper presents an overview of the programming language. This paper will also discuss the types of programming language along with their advantages and disadvantages. Computer Programming...

Low Production and High Unemployment

...?Low Production and High Unemployment A country is said to be in an economic equilibrium if there exists no external forces causing disruption, the quantities demanded, and quantities supplied are equal. In the short run, economic equilibrium is achieved via price mechanism of demand and supply. Whereas excess supply lead to price cuts, excess demand lead to price going up to reduce the demand achieving an equilibrium point where demand is equal to supply. At this point, the aggregate demand for goods and services is equal to aggregate supply for goods and services. A change in either the demand or the supply will cause a similar shift of the other. However, for an economy to experience sustained economic...

Under the direct attack are two methods which are the pincer attack and flanking (International Association of fire Chiefs n.d.). A direct attack is done to contain and extinguish the fire at its burning edge, which can be accomplished by a fire crew with hand tools, a structural engine company, a wild land engine company, a plow or an aircraft (International Association of fire Chiefs n.d.). Challenges of Fighting Fire in a High-Rise Structure

...Challenges of Fighting Fire in a High-Rise Structure Lecturer Fire fighting in high-rise buildings is quite challenging due to the challenges posed to curb the fire and save the property. This is irrespective of the height of the building as long as the building falls in the classification of tall buildings. For instance, in most cases the fire specialists have to approach and fight the fire right from the interior of the building in situations where the aerial ladder cannot reach the fire point. This is a dangerous undertaking since having access to...

Fire Fighting

...Fire Fighting Fire Fighting The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and Under Laboratories (UL) drafted newer ways of modern day fire fighting replacing the old traditional fire fighting techniques. This is in line with the modern structural architecture of buildings and residential houses. In a seven part series of video presentations, Stephen Kerber, Daniel Madrzykowski, and Derek Alkonis discuss how fire should be approached, controlled and attacked. NIST and UL have conducted extensive research to understand the dynamics of fire and how it behaves to different fire-ground firefighting techniques. Arguably, the two organizations have taken firefighting tactics to a higher level meeting the 21st century needs... safety...

Fire Fighting Strategies for High Rise Buildings

...Fire fighting strategies for high rise buildings: An overview: Fighting fire in multi-storied structures or high rise buildings is considered as one of the most cumbersome challenges that the fire fighting authorities normally confront. The risk is enlarged because of the nature of high rise buildings that does not allow much of horizontal motion. So the occupants have to move vertically through the stories to find their way out of the building. The need of a dedicated fire fighting strategy, meant solely for high rise buildings is...
