Download file to see previous pages The DistroWatch website that promotes the use of Linux/BSD provides the latest information on popular distributions of Linux/BSD on their website ranked on a certain basis/criteria. In the beginning of September 2005, the top ten distributions ranked by DistroWatch in terms of popularity were Ubuntu, Mandriva, Fedora, SUSE, Debian, Gentoo, Slackware, Knoppix, MEPIS, and Xandros. This ranking is not an indication of their market share or quality. The bewildering choice and the ever increasing number of Linux distributions can be confusing for those who are new to Linux. This is why this page on the DistroWatch website was created. It lists 10 distributions, which are generally considered as most widely used by Linux users around the world. There are no figures to back it up and there are many other distributions that might suit your particular purpose better, but as a general rule, all of these are popular and have very active forums or mailing lists where you can ask questions if you get stuck. MEPIS and Xandros are considered the best for new Linux users who want to get productive in Linux as soon as possible without having to master all its complexities. On the other end of the spectrum, Gentoo, Debian, Slackware, and FreeBSD are more advanced distributions that require plenty of learning before they can be used effectively. Mandriva, Red Hat, Ubuntu and SUSE can be classified as good "middle-road" distributions. ...Download file to see next pagesRead More

...Computer Platforms Draw out the truth-table for the XOR function. Make this using only NAND gates. Define and use DeMorgan's theorem both in Boolean and diagrammatic terms in the solution. Why is the EXOR function considered useful in binary addition circuits' Solution: The Exclusive-OR or EXOR function is represented by the symbol shown in Figure 1.1, and its truth-table is shown in Table 1.1. Figure 1.1 EXOR symbol Table 1.1 Truth table for XOR Further, EXOR can be represented algebraically by the expression: _ _ F = A.B + A.B As per Mano (2000, p.47), "The generalised form of DeMorgan's theorem states that the complement of a function is obtained by interchanging AND and OR operators...

Mathematically; A + B = A . B and A . B = A + B In other words, De Morgan's theorem states that the complement of a conjunction is the disjunction of the complements or vice versa. i.e. not (A and B) = (not A) or (not B) not (A or B) = (not A) and (not B) b)...

... ComputingComputability Theory The field of computer science deals with the idea of computability theory which looks at mathematical and logical problems by examining their solvability. In essence it examines if a problem can be positively handled by a logic machine or not. In even simpler terms, computability theory works at the very limits of computing power so while we can expect computers today to be very powerful and complex machines; there are certain limits to the problems they can solve. In certain situations, computability theory suggests that specialized computers might be...
