The Impact of PowerPoint Upon finishing the readings, I must say that I agree that PowerPoint has drastically impacted the exchange of information and ideas within the realms of business and academic institutions. Few business meetings and classroom lectures are quite complete without a PowerPoint presentation to streamline key concepts and get the "herd" out on time. And, it does seem that PowerPoint hasreplaced the podium as the standard crutch for anxiety-ridden public speakers. But, I disagree that "PowerPoint is strangely adept at disguising the fragile foundations of a proposal.

" Bad ideas are still bad and sometimes worse when fancy fonts, flashing lights, special fades, and dancing pie charts accompany them.2) I definitely feel that the descriptions of PowerPoint in the classroom ring true to my own experience. Professors rely too heavily on PowerPoint to get the point across while students frantically reproduce the slides on notebook paper, so they can memorize the answers for the next big test. As discussed in the reading, PowerPoint is great at presenting answers to questions and problems, but it neglects some of the integral aspects of learning-namely the question and the journey to a solution.3) I feel that it is time to reevaluate some of the technological tools we use to teach and transmit ideas.

PowerPoint is not the singular culprit. Boardrooms and classrooms are turning into high definition theatres as DVD technology, stadium seating, and surround sound.replace the slide show, uncomfortable desk, and attention to detail for the sake of itself. After all, are we merely training the next group of presenters, or are we hoping to teach the next generation ofproblem solvers These are the important questions that technology disregards.
