? Impact of Technology Task Indirect or Direct Environmental Issues The electronic manufacturing provides many environmental concerns to the existing populace although little emphasis has been put up to fight off these concerns. The environmental issues can either be direct or indirect. The direct environmental concerns affect the populace or the involved parties directly while the indirect environmental concerns bring its effects indirectly to the involved parties such as the users of the technological devices. In relation to the wider and dynamic electronic industry many issues have transpired mainly because of mass production of these commodities. The most salient issues that the industries take so much emphasis in are the manufacturing and the environmental outcomes of the products bearing in mind ecological and business viewpoint. Manufacturing progression in the electronic industry leads to many direct environmental issues such as pollution through the development of various components, which in most cases are not purified (Roisin 2010). The direct issues may be different for different companies depending on the materials or goods that are handled within these countries. In manufacturing of various components of electronics such as microchips, many potent chemicals are utilized and these chemicals contribute to pollution since they are not readily degraded. The chemicals also bear a lot of bodily harm to individuals working in these companies. The semiconductor manufacture offers a lot of harm to the environment since a lot of chemicals is utilized in its manufacture (Roisin 2010). These toxic chemicals create pollutions by means of discharge that have harmful impacts on water, air and soil. Although the companies have protective measures to reduce effects, more needs to be done to ensure the chemicals bear little effects on the workers. In the production, of microchips and other electronic accessories, a lot of energy is usually utilized, and this becomes an environmental issues bearing in mind that the world is on the verge of sustainable sources of power. The massive energy consumptions are, therefore, undesirable and alternatives need to be found for the reduction of the huge energy spending (Roisin 2010). Environmental worries on the components in electronic devices and their related disposal upon damage or extended use have been apparent in recent times. The devices pose a formidable confront in the disposal of certain components due to their composition. The hazardous material may bring harmful impact on the ecosystem altering its composition mostly the death of the aquatic or marine composition (MCC 2010). The electronic devices also bring about indirect environmental issues which may not bear direct connections to the same. The devices produced within the industry lead to health effects on the people who utilize them in various ways. The health impacts include; damages to certain vital body organs such as eyes, they can also lead to obesity due to lack of body exercises. Utilization of the electronic devices may also indirectly lead to poor performance due to addictions that prevent people from studying (Roisin 2010). The technologies have led to both constructive and unconstructive impacts on the undertaking of industries activities. The technologies also impacts profoundly on the consumer buying. Positive or Negative Economic Effects The impact of technology in computer science and information technology has led to remarkable positive and negative effects. Since technology today is the main attention of everyone currently hence its growth is skyrocketing at an alarming rate. One cannot assume the impact that technology has brought so far into the world. For Instance positive effect on technology has overshadowed negative effects if not influencing the world equally. Computer system being my area of study or discipline, the positive contribution of personal computer to humanity has been extremely numerous to list down and humanity cannot deny benefiting from the computer since its inception. Main positive effects are reduction of paper work; people were able to work in their computers and save their work there rather than pilling and filing up papers in their offices, this way paper work was reduced. Some used computer to access, gather and remit information on the internet which happened just on a click of a “mouse button” saved time and energy concurrently. Some used computer as an entertaining device, for example playing music, playing computer games, and even watching videos for academic or entertaining purposes. Computer system has flourished in the medical sector where lab technicians use a scanner to view internal structure of humans before diagnosis. Due to computer system there emerged mobile phones which have a camera for taking pictures, radio, media player and installed games for entertainment. Technology has led to also teleconferencing, video conferencing and watching live broadcast from a different place via the use of satellite. We have seen technology leading to e-market, where a buyer can select the items that he/she want from an e-market website, pay for the items via visa electronic machine then picks the item from his/her door step. The list of positive effects of computer system is lengthy to be discussed in my discipline at this level. Just like positive effects are the negative effects of computer technology, the major one being encouraging laziness to students, for example lazy students who do not to do assignments properly go to the internet and “copy paste” documents from the internet directly as they are hence plagiarism. Secondly, fraud emerges as a result of computer technology where a criminal uses other people personal information to swindle them of their money or properties without being noticed. The negative effects has also led to exposure of pornographic video to kids who are in disciplined, they open adults website and watch the videos which eventual underrates their dignity hence immorality. Again technology has made some computer “gurus” hack other people’s account without authorization (Schell et al, 2002). The computer can be very detrimental health wise since many people sit at the computer for a long period of time which could easily lead to eye problems and obese as far as eating a sitting around is intact. There is also a case of misinformation by other people on the internet which could lead to mistrust and might cause problems to the younger generation. Computers mostly distract people so much that they lose contact with the vicinity around them for example, spending time with their family, husbands, wives and children. According to me the most detriment factor is the use of computer to make and test nuclear weapon which in case of war, it might be used as a device of mass destruction. Therefore just like positive effects, the negative effects are also numerous and unlimited to be discussed at this level. References Microelectronics and Computer Technology Corporation (MCC). 2001.
