What is/are the author’s main argument(s)? The main theme of the work is the reduction in structure fires throughout U.
S and how much contribution has it made to the decrease in fire fatalities and death across the country. In this research, the researcher put forward the question as to what degree has the decrease in firefighter deaths been driven by the drop in the number of fires. The author’s main argument is that more than protective measures and equipment, the reduction in structural fires have paved the way to a reduction in firefighting casualties. What methodology/framework /approach is being implemented? What are the implications and/or conclusions being made by the work?
In this research paper, a quantitative methodology is used as the statistics and casualties incurred by the firefighters during a span of time are analyzed. The conclusion made by the work is that the firefighter needs to be given proper training to avoid fatalities and professional trainers need to be employed to educate the firefighters in a scientific manner.Is/are the author’s main argument(s) convincing or persuasive? Why? How so? What are the strengths and/or weaknesses of these implications/conclusions?
The main argument by the author is convincing because if there is a reduction in fire breakout then in parallel the fatalities also will decrease. It is because at each fire breakout, a handful of firefighters are injured or dead and measures need to be taken to reduce fire incidence. The strength of the conclusion is that it gives importance to educating the firefighters while the weakness is that the method to avoid fire fatalities like fire ground analysis is not much practical.ConnectingHow does it help you—how is it useful for your research question?
The research question is satisfied by the strength of the research which is to educate the firefighters. By educating the firefighters the fire incidence can be contained well. How does it fit in with the other works you are reading? Other readings are more about fire incidence prevention and the reduction of fatalities among firefighters. And all of the reading more or less suggests that educating fire fighters is the best way to reduce fatalities. What additional questions does it raise? The additional question it raises are:1) How far the fire can be contained as it is an unpredictable event?2) How much training is essential for the firefighters?3) What is the reason for firefighters and can training sessions cover such issues?
