Moreover, it was also reported that as a direct result of these fires, approximately $12.4 billion worth of property was damaged. (National Fire Protection Association, 2013). Fire related deaths one of the leading causes (ranked third) of “fatal home injury” (Runyan 2004 cited by (CDC, 2011). “The United State’s mortality rate from fires ranks eighth among the 25 developed countries for which statistics are available” (CDC, 2011). Cooking has been described as the leading reason for causing residential fires whereas smoking (carelessly) was the main reason for fire related deaths.

(CDC, 2011). Moreover, it is believed that most victims die of the toxic fumes of fire rather than burn injuries. (CDC, 2011) Children under the age of 4 and old people above 65 are at most risk of fatalities due to residential fires. (CDC, 2011). Moreover, homes without fire alarms and other firefighting equipment are most at risk of fires and 37% of all residential fires were caused in homes without smoke detectors. (CDC, 2011) It is believed that the major portion of fires happen during the winter season.

(CDC, 2011) The main object of study in this paper is the deaths caused by fire in the United States. For this, we have divided the study in two groups: deaths caused by fire in Urban areas of the United States and deaths caused by fire in the Rural areas of the United States. Both the urban as well as the rural areas focus on the residential fire deaths. For the purpose of this paper we ignore all non residential fire related deaths. To evaluate our hypothesis and other aspects of the paper, we have carried out secondary research by way of a literature review on the subject.
