Three Projects
Activity One Project
The outbreak of the global pandemic COVID-19 has resulted in new ways of life for everyone around the world. More than three months since the disease spread across the globe; firms have responded swiftly to adapt to new ways of working remotely. The idea of working from home for many workers has become a new normal. Initially, the call for employees to work from home was taken as a temporary measure to limit the spread of the disease. However, moving forward, it appears to be a new way for many firms to have their operations running. The current project is about adapting to the new norm of working from home due to COVID-19.
Project Description and the Role of Student
The project focused on conducting the online and phone survey to various families. The study was about operating the screening program developed by the agency. It, therefore, involved creating and conducting surveys comprised of multiple questions that were administered to families. The contents of these questions were concerned about the screening program that companies were subjected to as a way to combat COVID-19. Under the normal circumstance, that is; in the absence of such a pandemic, the survey would be conducted physically by researching the involved participants. However, in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, new ways are devised to conduct the survey to minimize the chances of spreading the disease to the people involved.
As a student, I had the defined roles in carrying out in the project. The roles involved creating a spreadsheet for tracking purposes of all of the families I called and emailed about the surveys. I was at the center of completing the surveys and recreating surveys organized by families who went through the developmental screening program and those that did not because they were unresponsive. Therefore, I ensured that the survey was successfully conducted online and that tracker was created to follow up with the participating families.
Intervention Level
The project is at Mezzo- level, which in social work involves assisting the intermediate or medium scale. The mezzo level is common in institutions and neighborhoods that are small in size (Mohan, 2011). This project fits at the mezzo level because it involves working to provide support in the areas that needed change following the season of COVID-19. Therefore, the student involved critical thinking in coming up with the plan to be implemented within the company amidst the pandemic.
Core Competencies
The activity involving the adaption to working from home fits in number 5 core competency. The core competency involves engaging in policy practice of the organization. It is chosen because the project involves identifying the areas that the organization can improve following the prevailing COVID-19 situation. The lead to the project involves thinking and learning about the policy of the organization, which was part of my learning contract.
Self-reflection
The completion of this project was a step in addressing the current problem the world is facing today. I learned that only new measures to stay home could help ease the problem caused by the pandemic. My strength is the ability to use modern technology to address COVID-19 pandemic.
Conclusion
The project was about adapting to the new norm of working from home due to COVID-19. The measure is being applied across the world, and my attempt, in this case, ranks it at mezzo level as an idea that involves critical thinking. It also has an impact on changing the policy operations of the organizations.
Activity Two Project
Leadership comes with the obligation and the responsibilities to guide, direct, and organize people through the running of an organization or a project. Since leadership involves many people with different characteristics, there is a need for the organization to consider professionalism to have leaders who would sail the organization through its goals. The second activity project two involves establishing professionalism in leadership through the application and development of the strategies which enhance the promotion of social and economic justice, advance human rights, and eliminate the barriers to the provision of services.
Project Description and the Role of Student
The project will involve the researching and completion of the data relating to the impact of increase salary on childcare workers. This also examines how these workers within the children are eligible for the benefits that are related to policy measure of a country. Supporting childcare workers to improve their efficiency and effectiveness involves professionalism in leadership that will ensure justice to them. My role in the project will involve submitting the completed data to my advisor for analysis. I will have an opportunity to identify human rights’ issues at the individual and system level by working with field instructors and agency administrations.
Intervention Level
The intervention level for this project is at the macro level. When the project intervenes at the macro level means that the organizations and the communities are involved in its working or in its seeking for the relevant changes in statutes and social policies (Zastrow & Hessenauer, 2019). The macro-level is the most preferred for this project because it involves the change in social policies if the organization, which in turn will impact various communities across Alameda County. Childcare workers are involved in the provision of social services and considering increment in their salaries will involve the intervention that edits the policies of the organization on benefits and compensation.
Core Competency
The core competency that this activity fit is number 5 core competency which involves engaging in policy practice of the organization and facilitating the changes in these policies. It is chosen because the project involves identifying the areas that the organization can improve the social services offered by childcare workers. The lead to the project involves the thinking and learning about the policy of the organization to have their compensation and benefits increased as part of my learning contract.
Self-Reflection
The completion of this project was a landmark in the provision of child services in the society considering the increasing number of children who need social services. I found strength in my ability to influence the increase in salaries for social workers who have often been neglected over the years. Some difficulties experienced were associated with a long procedure to amend the policy. Significantly, I learned that childcare workers are a significant part of society.
Conclusion
The project involved establishing professionalism in leadership through the application and development of the strategies which enhance the promotion of social and economic justice, advance human rights, and eliminate the barriers to the provision of services. The project intervenes at the macro level since it involves the large-scale action that changes the motivation of the workers to perform better. The project offers excellent experience in social work since it helps increase the level of production.
Activity Three Project
Service provision is an essential aspect in the communities with the population that needs social services. Local organizations have identified the need to continue supporting communities in their operations. However, these local organizations are limited in terms of resources such as labor and finance hence the need to support them. The third project activity involves collaborating with local organizations about the services.
Project Description and the Role of Student
The project involves exploring partner agencies that facilitate the provision of work with clients through phone on a one-on-one basis. Agencies at the local level are involved in providing multiple types of social support services to the people in local communities. The details of the project will include discussing the services the agencies offer, their retrieval of referrals and the clients whom they serve. My role in the project was networking with representatives at partner agencies through the community event known as “Connection Café” to discuss the services they provide and share about the agency I work for in service provision.
Intervention Level
The level at which this project intervenes is the macro-level which emphasizes the importance of large-scale interventions and how they impact the change. Hempworth (2017) identifies strategies such as engaging in actions for advocacy and community, development and mobilization of resources, and the community organization engagement as effective in improving the organizational working environment. The strategies also involve responding to the needs within the organizations, communities, and groups of society. This activity fits in macro-level because it involves working with different organizations and communities to assess needs and network to get families connected to the appropriate resources.
Core Competency
The core competency that this activity project fits is number 6 core competency. This competency involves engaging the individuals, groups, communities, families, and organizations. The activity fits here because it includes local organizations to help provide needed services in the community.
Self-Reflection
Completing this project was one of the best achievements considering that the highest population in the community needs social services that they have never achieved. As part of my strength, I found it easy to connect and collaborates my agency to others due to the marketing skills I have gained in college. Similarly, it was an achievement when I saw that communities have access to the required services, especially the population living in poverty. The major problem faced in implementing the project was associated with limited resources.
Conclusion
The project involved collaborating with local organizations about the services. This follows the observation that communities’ dire need of services that needed the combination of the many agencies. The project intervenes at the macro level since it involves the large-scale action that changes the provision of the services in the society. The project offers excellent experience in social work that includes services to people, especially in needy communities.
