The proliferation of various fashion chains such as Gap increasingly resembles fast food as it is becoming disposable, entertaining and predominantly standardized. Fashion is now considered as a global business because fashion can be found in all corners of the globe.
Standardized commodities definitely exist as demonstrated in most of the high fashion streets in the world with designers such as Ralph Lauren and Gap being LV being examples, these products are not standardized in the same way that the development of the globe is not homogenized (Reisman 120). Fashion can no longer be considered as an aspect of the West or a hierarchical structure that defines good taste and how it may be imitated.
Consumer culture does not originate from globalization as it has been in existence for a long time. The book, Queen Elizabeth I, written by Leon Ashworth describes the life of Queen Elizabeth I through artwork, documentary evidence as well as information filled with facts to create a rounded picture. For example, in the sixteen century, Queen Elizabeth I established the use of objects in her court that was used for ceremonial purposes as a means of communicating the legitimacy of her rule (Ashworth 15).
