The moral orphan Along the coastal region of South Africa, in the 19th century, there existed a community whose inhabitants enjoyed varied values as pertains to both social and economic status (The moral orphan,2015). Lenser’s parents unluckily succumbed to a road accident when she was just fourteen years of age, and given that her father had two wives, her only option was to stay with her stepmother. Lenser was not the only child of her father. Her step mother who was now a widow had two daughters, both of whom were older than her (The moral orphan, 2015).
The family of four had to face a new life with its challenges with Lensers step mother as the key breadwinner. The three ladies, Lenser, and her two sisters existed peacefully under the umbrella of their mother, and in most occasions, Lenser had to adjust to the new family way of life since she had been staying separately with her mother before the accident. Despite engaging in most activities together, Lenser was rarely given the time out of the homestead to socialize with members of the community, unlike her two sisters.
Her stepmother had realized that she had better values with regards to behavior and responsibility as compared to her two sisters who were less responsible and did not depict the true values of a good woman (The moral orphan, 2015). This did not impress her stepmother since she never wished her any good future. One evening, lenser was at the compound with her stepmother alone and she got an opportunity to be sent to the nearby market. The form of beauty that she possessed was very natural and she did not have to complicate her dressing to attract the attention of right-minded men.
Luckily enough, she was approached by a man who happened to belong to the political class (The moral orphan, 2015). They exchanged talks and began a relationship against her step mother’s wish. This relationship continued secretly and finally developed into a marriage. When it became public that Lenser was getting married to the economically stable political class, her stepmother never took it positive, just like her two sisters (The moral orphan, 2015). They had always rated Lenser as an inferior woman due to the fact that her mother was the second wife and was perceived to be inferior despite her good social values.
The two sisters had been misguided by their mother and did not have the proper social values necessary for a happy life. All they learned from their mother was jealousy and this denied them access to better people in the community (The moral orphan, 2015). That is how Lenser rose from her low social and economic status to a higher status of national recognition. In this movie narrative, Lenser’s previous lawlessness represents a group of people in a society that belong to a lower social and economic class (The moral orphan, 2015).
It’s a norm that persons from such classes are often perceived to be less human, which is not the case since people have an equal opportunity to strive of success irrespective of historical background. The behavioral characteristics of Lensers two sisters were as a result of their mothers influence (The moral orphan, 2015). This shows the level of responsibility mothers need to nurture their daughters in a guided manner. It is evident from the movie narrative that women are depicted to have a major role in monitoring the development of their daughters.
The society requires women of high integrity and with proper social values. This movie narrative portrays both men and women accurately since in every society, it is the responsibility of mothers to instill good moral values in their daughters (The moral orphan, 2015). Men have the responsibility of identifying, and correcting these values. References The Moral orphan. (2015).South Africa.Graham Rose film productions.
