Theories of Love The theory of mate selection is most preferred if compared to the theory of complementary needs by Robert Winch. Ressis believed in someone finding that one person who they would share their life together until they get to marry. Several stages existed through which these individuals will go through. These individuals were to show their interests of one another, and this was by having good communication. This communication will facilitate sharing of personal information with the partner, and this will foster the feelings between the two.

Following this the individual can learn about the partner’s emotional feelings what they need from them and how this can be achieved .Since the two can make agreed decision this fosters their relationship they are working together, they grow together having ways to satisfy each person’s needs, and this fosters their relationship to marriage (pearsonhighered.com).Mate selection gives the individuals rights to choose their partners after having to learn about them. During this process of learning this partners individuals can consult with their parents and this give greater chances of marrying this person, however, there are critics of this theory that include lack to specify the needs that should be incorporated are they negative or positive .

Influence of parents affects this theory so is the occupation and someone’s education background (pearsonhighered.com).The theory of complementary by Robert Winch is based on individuals of opposite sex attracting each other (pearsonhighered.com). The couples have needs that are to be satisfied and can be personal, but this needs differ between the two. The critic from this theory is a lack of evidence to support it. Due to the different needs of the couples, that makes their satisfaction hard.
