Comics Subculture in America Subcultures are an inevitable part of the greater culture and they appear in the communities of people that are united by common goals, values, and interests. It is very difficult to live in a modern globalized society and not be involved in some subculture or a counter-culture. The methods that allow finding people who are close to you spiritually are numerous: in special meetings, on the Internet forums, and on specific sites. Most often people create subcultures according to their professions because they share common goals and skills and even a common type of humor.
The subculture I belong to is more specific- it concerns comics. I discover my passion for this form of art a decade ago when I first bought an issue of comics. I was fascinated by the combination of visual manifestation and the deep message of comics and became an instant fan. Soon I realized that there is a whole community of people that are united by their passion for comics. I found and joined it with the help of the thematic website and became a member of a subculture. This subculture does not oppose to general culture, it completes American culture on the contrary because comics constitute a huge element of the US entertainment segment.
However, there is a possibility to see a member of this narrow comics subculture at first glance for those who know what I am talking about. A typical member of my subculture is a man from 12 to 100 probably because age does not matter much in this case, however, the interest in different comics will evolve with age. Women can also be involved in the subculture but not as often as men. People sharing love and passion for comics will try to buy and wear thematic clothes and different attributes such as signs, and jewelry.
It can be something eye-catching like a superhero t-shirt or something more interesting like underwear. The peculiar feature of this subculture in terms of clothes is the suits of superheroes which are sometimes made by the members themselves but most often they are bought. The members of my subculture usually gather at special thematic events and in thematic shops to exchange their possessions and share their impressions from a reading something fresh. These are passionate people who value imagination and are obsessed with supernatural powers.
The relationship of this subculture to the mainstream culture is indulgent: comics have become a part of popular culture when they are connected to movies and music. In a general sense, this subculture supports the values of mainstream culture because most comics are based on a well-developed plot about rescuing the planet. The value of human life, personality, the good instead of evil are those values that are supported in this subculture. Moreover, I can suggest that comics go along with America's general consumerism culture which proves its status of pure American art.
