Serial Offender Profile- Dennis RaderDennis Lynn Rader fits the discrimination of the serial killer. A serial killer refers to a person who murders three or more people over a long period (Clinard & Meier, 2011). Rader killed ten people in the Sedgwick County between 1974 and 1991. Rader was a hedonistic killer, and derived thrill and pleasure in murdering people. His slogan was “bind, torture, and kill”. Notably, the killer’s key interests were in bondage, sexual torture, and death. The BTK killer Rader thought of his victims were objects to facilitate the fulfillment of his pleasures.

As a hedonistic killer, Rader mostly committed the murders with the intent of satisfying himself sexually. Similarly, Rader found the pleasure in taunting the victims’ family members, as well as, the police by leaving a false evidence or destroying any evidence that might have implicated him in the crime. Dennis Rader used to kill the victims by strangling after torturing them sexually (Barkan & Bryjak, 2011). In effect, Dennis Rader derived sexual gratification from the victims, and thrilled in causing pain before committing his heinous crimes.

The authorities arrested Dennis Rader in February 2005 after approximately thirty-one years of a manhunt. The improvement in the DNA technology, as well as, Rader’s letters assisted the detectives in arresting the serial killer. The investigators recovered the kits that Rader used to commit murder. Notably, the detectives found rubber gloves, handcuffs, tapes, ropes, and bandannas (Bio, 2015). Until 2005, Rader had killed ten people, and the majority of the victims were women. In June 2005, the killer pleaded guilty and explained the strategies he used to kill the victims.

It was evident that Rader planned and strategized well for his heinous activities. The killer carefully selected, trailed, and strangled the victims (Clinard & Meier, 2011). The stalking stage involved learning more about the victims or the potential victims, and Rader could search for the addresses and call a couple of times to meet them. The confessions revealed the psychopathic state of the serial killer. Rader was less concerned about the welfare of other people. The psychopaths do not express any emotions as the normal people do.

Rader’s description of the killings as “projects” revealed that serial killers tend to be self-centeredness. The court sentenced Dennis Rader for ten counts of first-degree murder after pleading guilty to all the charges. The judge delivered the final sentence, and gave the serial killer 175 years in prison without the possibility of parole or one life sentence for each victim after Rader presented the horrifying information about his crimes in the court (Clinard & Meier, 2011). The graphic detail of the killings reflected a killer who enjoyed sexual gratification and traumatizing victims.

The satisfaction of the sexual fantasies overshadowed the conscience inherent in every human being. The killer escaped the capital punishment because the period when he committed the crime was prior to the Kansa’s reinstatement of the death penalty in 1994 (Bio, 2015). If Rader had committed the crimes after 1994, he would have qualified for capital punishment. Currently, Rader Lynn Dennis is in Kansas prison serving ten life sentences.
