Therefore, suicide is considered as one of the complications of the illness of depression, and with a combination of other risk factors. This is mainly because suicidal behavior and thoughts are symptoms of a moderate depression (El-Mallakh & Ghaemi, 2006). However, these symptoms have the capability of responding to good treatment, and it is possible to avoid them by intervening when the person is suffering from depression at an early age. Furthermore, any thoughts of an individual, in seeking to commit suicide should be taken seriously, and a professional doctor or psychologist should evaluate the patient and come up with the best measures that can be used for purposes of treating the patient (Serani, 2011).

This paper provides an analysis of depression and its rates in the world today. This analysis identifies the scope of depression and suicide rate in the last 30 to 50 years, and it will further use a theoretical perspective for purposes of explaining the emergence and prevention of this social problem. Finally, this paper will provide an independent opinion regarding depression, and the rates of suicide in the world. This paper takes a stand that depression is one of the causes of suicide, but not all people who are depressed normally commit suicide.

On an annual basis, more than 800,000 people normally die because of committing suicide (WHO, n.d). Furthermore, there are many people who normally attempt to commit suicide. This therefore means that millions of people in the world normally experience or are affected by bereavement because of the deaths that an individual has committed, due to suicide. Suicide normally occurs within the lifespan of an individual, and it is the second leading cause of death amongst people who are between the years of 15-29 years old(WHO, n.d)This is as of the year 2012.
