The article examines how the issues of multiculturalism in Britain have affected the political thinking in the country. The author bases his arguments on a pivotal moment that emanated from the legal case of Mandla v Dowell-Lee in 1983 (Evans, 2012). According to the author's view in the article, the British National Party changed its political strategy after the court ruling to specifically focus on issues of indigenous Britons in shaping the post-colonial multiculturalism in the country amidst the realities of the multiracial community working in the country after the industrial period.

Consequently, the entire political thinking in the country shifted from issues of social class towards a focus on the collective organization of the country based on issues such as ethnicity, and cultural nationalism. The article is also based on numerous pieces of evidence taken from historical and ethnographic research conducted between 1998 and 2000 about the postindustrial Docklands in Southeast London. Based on the evidence taken from the articles, the author proves the “rule about growth in influence in the first decade of the twenty-first century of far-right politics in post-industrial urban areas of Britain” (Evans, 2012).

The main argument of the author in the article is that the political scene in Britain was greatly influenced by the ruling in the monumental court case of Mandla v Dowell-Lee (1983). As such, there was a significant shift in political strategy and general political thought with a specific focus on issues of multiculturalism and more importantly, the question of indigenous Britons in an era populated by different ethnicities and racial backgrounds in the wake of a post-industrial period in Britain (Evans, 2012).

In my opinion, the article is a very interesting piece to read for various reasons. Firstly, the author tries to explore one of the most overlooked topics in anthropology. His analysis and arguments are above board, making the article educative and compelling to read. For this reason, the article was very interesting due to the important facts I came across, which were new to me. Secondly, the article is well written with specific arguments illustrated with related evidence. This makes the article easier to read and comprehend the issues raised.

In the same regard, the article is very useful because it facilitates an important process in academic and social thinking about relating socio-cultural issues to politics. As such, the article traverses different disciplines to make several compelling arguments that can help improve society in terms of socioeconomic and political interactions. With the knowledge expressed in the article, one can easily understand the political dynamics in Britain and relate such political issues with other social and economic issues in the society to facilitate the creation of better social structures that can support the multicultural nature of British society. As such, the lecture focused on issues such as social class, ethnicity, and social institutions and their impact on understanding and explaining social interactions.

These are important factors in addressing relations and interactions between different people in society, hence very well in line with the ideas discussed in class.
