As for the process of discrimination, social learning theory would suggest that a particular part of society sees that this is a practice that can be traced for a long time, so there is no problem continuing and reinforcing it.

Another approach that is called social identity theory provides a unique insight into the causes of prejudice and discrimination. This theory heavily relies on the relationship of an individual to a relevant group (Haslam 2003, p. 225). That is why the idea of prejudice might be regarded as a mechanism to differentiate the insiders from the outsiders. Speaking of the process of discrimination, one might note that it may be perceived as a tool to secure the dominant place of a particular group in society. Indeed, people will feel much safer and more secure if they know that the social environment favours them.
