In the past, there was a wrong allegation that African Americans could not perform as well as their white counter parts when it came to education. However, some African American scholars have come out strongly to cancel the idea and show that they can perform as well. The government, both the state and the federal ones are using education to boost the status of the African Americans and to make it stick in the minds of racists that the African Americans are normal people who should be accorded the respect they deserve.

It is totally out of order to judge someone or evaluate his abilities on the basis of their race, gender or color. This is what the projects done in the field are aimed at achieving. The last decade saw efforts being made to elevate the African American child after the realization that he/she was neglected and that led to them failing to achieve as expected or even failed to achieve the minimum qualifications in the schools they were admitted to. The involvement of the children and the African American youth in crime was also a facilitating factor to come up with ways that would elevate the educational standards of the children and match that with that of their counterparts across the country.

Growing up in a society that is marred by racial prejudice is one of the predicaments that most of these children have to put up with and which adversely affect their self-esteem leading to poor performance when it comes to their studies.
