Traditionally, sexuality in Muslim culture is perceived as a taboo or something that isn’t allowed to be revealed to publicity. This especially concerns female sexuality due to unequal gender roles cultivated in the Islamic society.

Muslim culture is strongly connected with religion and thus many aspects of culture are controlled by religious doctrine. In terms of sexuality, Muslims are rather conservative, seeking to adhere to the laws of Qur’an. First, any sexuality displays are forbidden outside marriage, and that primarily concerns women. Sexuality is not to be demonstrated publically, it is considered to be shameful and is usually punished.The article of Shelina Janmohamed considers the issue of sexuality in the Muslim culture.
