In some communities, children are exposed to dangerously traditional practices such as early marriages, female genital mutilation, and denial of education. In cases of natural disaster, children suffer most and. Therefore; there is a need to protect children against such dangers. I chose Save the Children organization since it is an international organization that has taken up the responsibility to stand in the gap for children to protect them against abuse as well as ensure that they access basic human needs. Save the childrens main goals are: giving every child what they deserve; a healthy start, education and protection against harm, advocating children as well as saving childrens lives. In times of disaster such as flood, famine and war, Save the Children provides emotional support to the children affected as well as lifesaving supplies. In addition, Save the Children campaigns for long- term changes that can improve the lives of children.
Save the Children Fund was established in 1919 by Jebb Eglantyne, to feed starving children during the First World War. This Fund was adopted by the League of Nations in 1924. However, in 1977, different save the child group came together and formed an alliance. The main purpose of this association was to coordinate their campaigns and improve their outcome for children in the whole world. The association formed the basis for Save the Children as a single global movement solely for children.
Anyone can participate in save the children through various ways. These approaches include: Taking action, being part of the campaigns, and working with Save the Children either as an employee or volunteer. Taking action involves singing up petition forms, participating in the fundraising programs, being an advocate for summit highlights, and spreading the word. Social activism means holding rallies, tying oneself to a tree, picketing, going on parades, taking part in spreading the word about an injustice in a somewhat peaceful manner that is created to at least attract attention in some sort of way.
This situation always alarmed me and so I decided to join and explore such an organization which would be working for solving this issue of water crisis and making it possible for everyone to get access to purified water. This organization helps people in developing and building their own reservoirs of purified water so that they can improve their economic conditions (Water for People, 2012).
