On top of that it was important to know whether the group had any age barriers and whether at a certain age the members ceased to be actively participating as they did when they were young. In our cover photo we have an old man who is jovially doing his job. This is just an example that this social group has little if any gender barrier among the members.
This article will try to establish the social behaviors by banking a lot on the theory of social conflict that explains the things that should be expected in any society as the one we are looking at in this particular concept.
My quest to understand the social group led me to investigate about the gender differences that can be found within the group. It is not correct to say that the job is done entirely by males. I encountered a number of female cobblers and shoe shiners who were willing to talk and who responded positively to the interview.
The ladies whom I interviewed to establish how they landed into this social group gave economic hardships as their main reason. Due to the rising cost of living it was important for them to establish a way in which they could be making a living. This drove them to trying out in this field and they were making the ends meet by managing the money needed to run their jobs. However they had a number of hardships as they tried to match their male counterparts in delivering the same quality of work as they did. First with the family obligations, duties and responsibilities demanding their attention it was increasingly hard for them to work at certain times of the day for example late in the evening and early in the morning. Some said that they had to drop their children in their respective schools and then proceed to their places of work and start working.
