Analysis of Hermeneutics Hermeneutics is an art and science that allows construal of biblical literature. Traditionally, this was the definition of hermeneutics. Since then, the definition is more accommodating and includes the interpretation of any literacy text, social occurrences and the mental condition of the human mind. Interpretation is important because it brings clarity and sense to the object of study. Hermeneutics is important in aiding human understanding of his environs. This tradition is transcendent of the Greek philosophy and is used as a strategy in leadership development.

The process of interpretation begins with understanding expressions. Openness between the interpreter and receiver is fundamental in facilitating the actual perception of the idea or message (Boltanski & Chia, 2011). In as much as hermeneutics is a broad concept that addresses various dimensions, it is necessary to look at its pros, cons and influence on leadership. The Pros of hermeneutics Hermeneutics is for the claim that human beings are a product of their history. It claims that the nature of human beings, especially habits and choices are historical circumstances based on society.

In addition, the hermeneutics circle suggests that human understanding is a result of perception of parts of a form that leads to interaction of the whole form (Miller-McLemore, 2012). It claims that those things that have not yet been understood, will be understood in due time by grasping what is understood now. The application of hermeneutics is important in understanding people. It highlights the differences among people. The process is important in decision-making as it determines the role that different people take in the community (Miller-McLemore, 2012).

The cons of hermeneutics Human understanding, judgment and interpretation of people and events are affected by prejudice. Prior knowledge of a situation or text affects expectations (Boltanski & Chia, 2011). It is critical to distinguish between true and false meanings. Prejudice and prior knowledge leads to preconception that may result to misconceptions and misunderstandings. Hermeneutics is disadvantageous because it is difficult to differentiate true pre-conception from false pre-conception.

It imposes meaning to the study object and limits community interpretation (Boltanski & Chia, 2011).The authors meaning may not be black and white to every reader. People have different perceptions of written text. True meaning and perception relies on the engagement between the reader and author. In a situation where there is a translator or interpreter, the true understanding of the object of study relies on the interpretation. Biases and presumptions of the interpreter may lead to distortion of information.

A misconception of such text is easy, as the text stands independent of the author once written. Once exposed to the public, it is impossible to retract the text (Doornenbal, 2012). Role of Hermeneutics in Understanding LeadershipThrough hermeneutics, leaders get to learn that what may seem obvious may not be as plain. A leader may use this information to assign different roles to different individuals. A good example is in the business field where the study of hermeneutics is a precursor in determining potential employees suitable for managerial positions by understanding the display of specific traits and habits.

In addition, hermeneutics is crucial in giving solution to the fundamental questions. The meaning of the object in study may not be literal meaning that neutrality is a crucial trait in leadership. Furthermore, it establishes good communication skills in leadership (Boltanski, 2011).ConclusionHermeneutics is a credible strategy in understanding leadership. Dialogue, articulation of creativity leads to integration of knowledge. Consequently, the position leads to attainment of a deeper understanding of issues resulting in preparation for action in the future (Doornenbal, 2012).
