This essay will discuss the diversity of the American politics in terms of race gender and ethnicity. To start with, the American population is very diverse compared to other countries in the world. This can be attributed to the increased immigration of people from different parts of the world seeking for better life in the U.S. The American dreams initiated by the founding fathers of the U.S attracted many people to live in the country. For instance, the American dreams promised liberty and financial independence for American citizens something that was not readily available in many other countries hence attracting people.
According to Liberty University, different people moved to the U.S mainly for better quality of life through improved economic conditions that were not present in their countries of origin (2011). In addition, it is estimated that the U.S admits almost 700,000 persons yearly contributing to the increased diversity in the nation (Embassy of United States in Japan, n.d). Further, the U.S. Census Bureau stated that other races, apart from the whites, accounted for 28% of the U.S population in 2010 (2011).
These statistics indicate the diversity of the U.S population. Considering the diversity of the American population, it is more likely for the U.S politics to follow the same trend. Early American politics were not diverse and were characterized of domination by one race and gender. Many of the early politicians in the U.S were white American men excluding the immigrants who by then comprised a small percentage of the American population. However this situation changed with time due to the increasing number of the immigrants and increase in the literacy levels of the population after the country gained independence.
In addition, emergence of powerful and liberal political leaders likes Martin Luther King and Malcom X championed for multi-racial representation in the American politics. According to
