3 Short Paper: How Criminologists View Crime The criminal case that appears in New York Times d April 14, By Alan Cowell entitled Pistorius, Amid Persistent Cross-Examination, and Testifies about Details of Shooting. He is accused of murder against a former girlfriend and stands risk of jail if his plea fails to satisfy the jury. Several testimonies that have been brought forward indicate significant criminal concepts and cause effect relationship. Consensus view of crime means that a majority of a group of society agree on the type of crimes that should be punished (Winfree and Howard, pg.56). The majority of people within this idea are lawmakers, judges, and politicians.
This has been the scenario with pistorious’ case in which the state law is emphasized to serve justice to the bereaved family of the murder victim. A bench of judges are set determines the punishment for the crime based on the law. His defense team emphasizes on helping him out and looks at him from his social class. He is touted as global Paralympic elite who enjoy significant support across South Africa and the world. This as the media reports plays significant role in the overall outcome of the case that incorporates the concept of conflict view of crime (Winfree and Howard, pg.67-9). In this theory, crime is seen to be socially constructed hence defined to favor the elite in the society like Pistorious and control the working class.
The case of Pistorious also shows the concept of integrationist view of crime in which some of the criminologists working on the investigation and focus on particular types of behavior or offenders in social process-micro modeling. This has been seen from diverse judicial opinions derived from the legal professionals arguing this case as shown in the article.Work citedAlan Cowell.
