A report is enlightening when it adds a unique aspect to a large body of knowledge already available on a certain subject. One such most significant aspect of this report is that prejudices do not precede discrimination, rather they are generated by the latter. Prejudice is not already prevalent in a society to give birth to discrimination. Rather, it is the pathological discrepancy between democratic ideals and discriminatory treatment of disadvantaged groups which induces people to perceive things in a particular way. That particular way shapes prejudices. This implies that it is behavior which serves to foment discrimination and not attitude. Behavior is unfair treatment of minority groups and resulting attitude is prejudice. This concept discussed in the report by Favreault very effectively highlights the strategy to discard discrimination from society. The writer has also provided evidence from past research to validate her point. It is suggested that the real reason behind every evil should be investigated first to eliminate that evil later. If that reason is misinterpreted, then all the efforts are made in the wrong area and no useful results are obtained. By acknowledging behavior and not prejudice to be responsible for prevalence of discrimination, efforts will hopefully target behavior instead of attitudes for containing discrimination in society. It should be tried to model behaviors of the public and those in high positions. If behaviors get modeled for the better, unjustified treatment will come to a halt, and positive attitudes will generate everywhere. This will put a stop to the consequential development of prejudices as well.
