Research Paper Article Summary Is Global Warming Real or is it a Hoax? In the past 10 years, the overall global temperatures have been noted to remain virtually unchanged, despite the predictions that have been made regarding global warming and the mildest winter that have been noted in America for decades. Weather patterns that prevail in the modern world are similar to those that were being witnessed in 1942 when the US experienced warm winters while Asia and Alaska were witnessing severe weather conditions. Additionally, “General Frost” was noted to halt the advancement of Germany’s army into Russia (Hendrickson, 2012). All the changes that have been realized in weather conditions should not be associated with an increase in carbon dioxide (CO2) to the atmosphere, which is regarded as a noticeable adversary to the climate change theory. According to William Harper in his article “Global Warming Models are Wrong Again”, he reveals that carbon dioxide is not a contaminant. He stipulates that life on earth was able to flourish for millions of years at significantly higher levels of CO2 unlike the case that we witness today. In this case, it seems that rising levels of carbon dioxide will result to added net benefits, especially to cultivated plants. They also have the potential to grow better, and they develop the capacity to resist draught whenever they are subjected to higher CO2 levels. From this perspective, it is true that the dangerous effects of carbon dioxide and global warming have been largely overstated (Hendrickson, 2012). After the “Little Ice Age” that was witnessed during the onset of the 19th century, global temperatures have been noted to rise by about four to fifths of one degree Celsius. Though some of the warming has come from the rising amounts of carbon dioxide, the timing of the heating before CO2 levels had risen appreciably reveals that a substantial portion of the warming has come from natural causes and that mankind is not to blame (Hendrickson, 2012). The current severe tornadoes that are being witnessed in the US also fail to prove that the rise in carbon dioxide levels lead to global warming. As in the case of winter temperatures, the severity, numbers, and geographical locations that are associated with tornadoes tend to fluctuate year after year. They undertake this initiative in a way that is correlated with the complex fluid flow configurations of oceans and the atmosphere, El Nino and jet stream conditions of that are affiliated with tropical Pacific Oceans among others (Gould, 2012). For as long as laws of nature prevail, tornadoes will exist. With an aim to ensure that more lives are assured of safety, it is appropriate to address this threat in a direct manner. One the major effective ways of doing this is by making use of weather radars that are improved and widely dispersed. Also, it is crucial to adopt better mechanisms that can warn people, especially those who reside in the endangered zones. However, we should refrain from supporting schemes that target the reduction of carbon footprints, or funding more computer centers to facilitate in the prediction of global warming since these initiatives will only deprive us financially (Gould, 2012). Theoretical Perspective: Conflict Theory The social conflict theory lays emphasis on pressure and power so as to facilitate for a social order. Being derived from Karl Marx’s work, it describes the society as being fragmented into a number of groups that engage in competition so as to attain both economic and social resources. In order to maintain social order, a particular group should be able to dominate by having powers in its hands. This is especially the case for those groups that have significant economic, political and social resources. Based on conflict theory, inequality prevails in the case of those people who are in control of a disproportionate share of the resources that prevail in a society to allow them defend their advantages (Crossman, 2013). The issue of global warming is attributable to social conflict theory. This is because there are people who believe in it, while others believe that it is a hoax. This is because most of those organizations that support global warming, are affiliated with political bodies, and have significant influence in terms of directing how science should be undertaken. Various experts stipulate that most scientists support global warming so as to gain grants for research, which then serves as a source of their revenue. In addition, the hysteria that governments associate with carbon dioxide have allowed them to introduce carbon tax, and thus making investors such as Al Core to realize all the credits that are linked to carbon. This raises conflicts regarding the issue of global warming, and thus making people to doubt its existence (Stomma, 2014). Most people from around the world have been made to believe that the concept of global warming is real and that it is mostly fueled by the activities that human beings embark on, especially by burning fossil fuels. However, an official position by the World Natural Health Organization holds that global warming does not exist and that it is just but a big hoax. It is just like the claims that were made regarding Y2K and global freezing assertions that prevailed in the 1960s and 70s. Most of the global warming critics stipulate that it is a concept that plays an essential role in terms of generating panic and fear among the members of the public (Strablow, 2014). People who are behind the global warming fraud are doing so for financial gain and allow them to control the lives of people on the planet. Most individuals, organizations and groups are unwilling to stand up and counter the fraud for they fear that they will be harassed, persecuted or ostracized by those who offer support to global warming. However, there are those people who have opted to do things while following the set protocols and refrain from supporting this crime since they claim that global warming is not founded on science (Strablow, 2014). This paper will evaluate if the warming of the globe is real or whether it is a form of fraud meant to scare members of the public and reap them financially. Literature Review Studies reveal that the US has witnessed a number of warm summers in the recent decades. These have made climate change pessimists to reveal themselves again, and hence an indication that it is appropriate to formulate a different form of refuting the claims. A number of critics treat the argument, which stipulates that the use of fossil fuels that are carbon-based leads to catastrophic climate change or global warming as a hoax (Gould, 2012). Therefore, there are various scientific questions that an individual should ask in order to evaluate the validity of this argument in an effective manner. For those who ask whether climate is changing, the answer is yes. This is because it has always changed and will continue to do so (Hendrickson, 2012). With respect to whether the earth is getting warmer, people should hope so for a number of reasons. Firstly, it is believed that the earth came from the “Little Ice Age” that became evident in the early 19th century, and hence an illustration that it would be worrying if it does not get warmer. Secondly, history reveals that humans are able to thrive in warm periods, as opposed to the cold ones (Booker, 2009). Therefore, it is possible that the warming of the earth is less than what is indicated by authorized temperature records for a number of reasons. First, there are few records that are long-term in nature, either in the case of those that stipulate that 71 percent of the earth is covered with water, or from those that give information about the southern hemisphere. Secondly, distortions arise as a result of urban heat-island influence among other faulty settings while determining earth’s temperature (Hendrickson, 2012). Most of the accurate measurements in temperature are associated with satellites. After the initiation of these kinds of measurements in 1979, there has been an insignificant change in the overall global temperatures. In terms of whether the earth is getting dangerously warm, the answer is not because the earth used to be warm than it is today in the past 7000 years. No one even knows what the optimal level of global temperature is (Toney, 2014). Much of the greenhouse effect that takes place all around the planet is influenced by water vapor. This makes one to wonder why EPA has not labelled water as a harmful pollutant that should be subjected to regulation. In this book “Climategate”, Brian Sussman stipulates that the share of humans to the greenhouse effect with respect to global warming is 0.9 of 1 percent. Therefore, it is also possible that carbon dioxide may not influence global warming. During the various stretches that have been witnessed throughout earth’s history, no relationship has prevailed between the level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and earth’s temperature. Based on various long stretches, the variations between CO2 and global temperature have followed a particular sequence (Toney, 2014). For instance, the increases in carbon dioxide have been noted to be behind the rises in the overall global warmth by a number of centuries. In this perspective, it is important for one to note that, in the temporal universe that we are living in today, cause does not justify effect (Gould, 2012). Most alarmists towards global warming have agreed that that carbon dioxide is not a major driver towards climate change. This is after responding to the cooling that has been witnessed in the recent years. In this case, they have opted to introduce own story by stipulating that the earth is likely to cool for a number of decades despite the rising levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. They stipulate that there are other factors that outweigh carbon dioxide based on their impact to global temperature (Gould, 2012). For instance, according to Marshall Institute, solar activity accounts for approximately three quarters of the variability that is witnessed in the case of global temperature. Also, the variations are noted in the orbit and axis of the earth influence the cloud cover as a result of the fluctuations that are witnessed in the activities of gamma rays. In addition, the tectonic and volcanic activities that take place in the earth’s crust also impact greatly on the earth’s overall temperature (Strablow, 2014). Analytical Position In case one assumes that the alarmists are right, and that carbon dioxide emissions are making the earth to become warmer, then there are certain changes they would propose in order to gain control of the situation. For instance, in a series of debates that were carried out in 2009 and 2010, proponents of scientific studies stipulated that by curtailing America to minimize the emission of CO2 to the atmosphere, it would shave several hundredths of future global temperatures. Additionally, the United Nations revealed that the entire planetary cost of cutting down carbon dioxide emissions would amount to a global cost of $552 trillion. This is a decade’s worth of the overall global GDP by the time the 21st century comes to an end. This cost is significantly high, and would force people to spend a lot so as to shift the negative impact of carbon dioxide (Gould, 2012). However, individuals should remember that a warm atmosphere is appropriate in terms of facilitating for the survival of people, animals and plants. In the case of global warming issue, some individuals are likely to realize benefits from this expensive and catastrophic initiative. The ones who would benefit are the elites who are politically connected, such as Goldman Sachs as they would realize billions as a result of selling carbon permits. Also, Al Gores and other political and corporate insiders would amass fortunes for being connected to the energy markets that have been rigged by the government, as well as other investments in technologies which the government favors. By monitoring the consumption of energy, it would be possible for governments to achieve unlimited power, especially with respect to controlling the activities that people undertake. It is no wonder that governments are spending billions of dollars to help them promote this initiative as well as offer support to institutions such as International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) to help them disseminate the findings that they desire (Gould, 2012). In case the government was able to realize sufficient power and order for a significant reduction in carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, millions of people would die, and hence make this initiative to seem like a dispersed holocaust. Others would be subjected to unessential deprivation and impoverishment. Even in the case of wealthy nations from around the world, people who have sufficient wealth may find that their lives have been significantly restricted by the bureaucrats present in their governments (Strablow, 2014). This is because they would be limiting the distances that they travel and the activities that they undertake in their daily lives. It is in this perspective that the issue of global warming in relation to the emission of carbon dioxide is being regarded as a hoax by a number of critics. Some even refer to it as the crime of the century. This is because it is anticipated to harm millions of people, animals and plants in case it succeeds (Booker, 2009). Interpretation of the Social Issue Based on the global warming issue that targets humans as being the major cause, it is true that this is one of the greatest hoaxes that have ever been affiliated with humans. In reality, this is just but a fraud that can allow climate scientists to become rich quickly, especially through grants they are provided with by the government and other fraudulent politicians such as Al Gore (Gould, 2012). For those people who tend to argue that humans are the ones who have orchestrated for global warming, they should ask themselves on how the earth managed to realize significant warmth as the previous ice age approached its end. Also, were not burning fossil fuels at that time. For instance, in 1974, Time Magazine stipulated that the earth was aiming towards coming across another Ice Age. However, this incidence never actually took place, and hence an indication that humans do not have sufficient information that can allow them to settle matters that are attributed to climate change (Booker, 2009). It is possible that the heating up of the earth could result from the sun, or that it might be a natural way for the planet to warm up. However, this does not really matter since global warming has never been associated with saving our planet. This practice is all attributed to those politicians who are hungry for power, and who want to own every aspect of the human race. They do this claiming that they are saving the planet, though this is not actually the case since this problem is not existent. They just want average individuals to make sacrifices while they amass wealth and power (Hendrickson, 2012). Conclusion The paper reveals that the global warming issue has raised a number of concerns among its proponents and opponents. Some argue that it is fueled by human initiatives such as burning of fossil fuels, while others stipulate that it is a naturally occurring event, which humans have little impact on. However, as people are becoming more knowledgeable, they are starting to disprove the idea that global warming is influenced human activities. Instead, they are realizing that it is mostly influenced by naturally occurring events, and hence an indication that global warming issue is a hoax. References Booker, C. (2009).
