Family and Social Weaknesses Family and Social Weaknesses Introduction A family is a union of father, mother and children. This is the simplest category of the family and is known as Nuclear family (Wyatt, 2008). Other families include, grandparents, Aunties and Uncles amongst many relatives. Such kind of family set up is known as extended family. In the current world, the most common family set up is the Nuclear family. Since 1960s many things have changed in the family setup and this has led to many wrangles within the families.

Changes in Family since 1960s In the early part of 1960s family roles were supported by both the mother and father. This scenario was mostly experienced in the suburbs amongst the middle white class families. In the inner city, most of the families catered for by single parents. From 1960s, the economy has changed to a great extent such that mothers have to work for the provision of daily bread for the family (Carruthers, 2011). The dynamics that have existed in the families for the past years have led to the occurrence of many family problems, and most of them are associated to economic challenges.

Other changes that occurred in the families’ setup since 1960 is the weakening trust between the husband and wife. This has been impacted by the issues of the declining morals in the families’ setup. Families are becoming weak day after day. This is because the problems that affected families in the early years have been multiplied to a large scale and of late what exist in most families is daily wrangles, cheats cases and financial problems. Whilst some of the problems in the family are by natural, others are man-made.

For instance, the issue of unfaithful couples is entirely man-made because it only calls for mutual trust and keeping to the promises for such cases to be avoided. In the newspapers, magazines and on internet daily posts, family problems are highlighted. The problems vary from couple having affairs outside marriage to husbands butchering their wives and vice versa. Other weak points in the unfolding stories of marriage wrangles include; Suicidal cases for the family heads due to overwhelming roles that they are expected to accomplish, and also the problem of polygamy which denies the household head the capability of supporting the whole family (Cohen, Devault & Strong, 2010).

Amongst the various ways that can be employed in curbing the family wrangles is family planning (Clement, 2004). This is because most of the problems that are witnessed in the families are associated to economic problems especially in developing countries where by a household can consist of up to ten members. With the daily requirements for the family such as daily food, clothing, schooling fees amongst others, it becomes difficult for the family heads to sustain the heavy load especially in the cases of single parenting (Furgang, 2012).

Couples should seek for official logistics in their marriages. This would assist in the event that a husband has neglected the roles of the family. With the marriage certificates, the wife can claim her share of resources and for the children. The last recommendation is that government should spread campaigns on good parenting and elimination of family wrangles. In conclusion for the family wrangles to be eliminated or minimized wife, husband, children and government should all play their roles so as to eliminate all challenges that could be associated to family problems.
