Extract of sample "The Concept of Culture"

Five symbols that are important to American culture include the Star and Stripes (like the one in the U.S. flag), the eagle (which is America’s national bird), the Gateway Arch, the White House, and the Washington Monument. These symbols represent America. These are also important to me because I believe that they contain an element of strength in them, and represent a strong nation that has brawny cultural and social values.

Excessive ethnocentrism does not let people understand another culture properly. People start judging another culture through their perspectives and standards; and, this leads to underestimation of the other culture, and also creates hatred among people belonging to cross-cultural regions. Every culture has its strong values and standards. Excessive ethnocentrism makes people believe that they are smarter than other nations, which is not true because every nation is smarter at one thing or the other.
