Global problems in WorldIntroductionThe world has been tremendously experiencing global warming, explosive population growth, the widening gap between rich and poor and the continual devastation of our natural environment (Barbara 2003:1). Though, people prefer to use the phrases like one planet or one global society, in reality, there is much dissimilarity with those euphemistical wordings. In fact, the whole global community is categorically divided into two segments: one is for the rich, while the other is for the poor.
An Urgent Call for Survival Throughout the world around 160 million children are malnourished, 800 million people live in hungry, 1.3 billion have no access to safe drinking water, and 1.3 billion survive in extreme poverty line (Haq n.d. p.3). Poor nations spend more money to purchase arms than improving education and health sector; developed countries, which are the minor proportion of total world population, consume more than 80 percent of global assets. Few powerful nations are determining the fate of the people through World Bank (WB), International Monetary Fund (IMF) and United Nations (UNO).
Besides, the developed countries are contributing to the environmental degradation which is causing an adverse impact to the environment and equally affecting all the nations (Catal 2005:6). But, poor countries being economically and technologically poor cannot do much and become subject to uncertainties, oppressions and untold sufferings. If the situation continues unimpeded, it would be rigorously impossible to eradicate social and economic injustices from the nations. But, a secured, stable and humane society is the demand of the time for the better sake of whole mankind.
In this view, policy makers as well as citizen groups should be active to adopt a viable policy framework with practical implications and at the same time, a communication network with international community should be developed. Poor nations should be rightly motivated to be abstained from purchasing arms and should develop their policies for spending more budget on the development of education, health care and pro-people social services to benefit people at the best extent. Actually, discrimination between classes is the ground reality in all corners of the world even in American society as it is handicapped with problems including racism despite economic promotion and development.
Area of ImportanceDespite advancements in all arenas, America has done much late to introduce women representation in political arena, particularly in case of presidential election. But, being the pioneering example of democracy, America should have been introduced the system of giving an equal chance to the female candidates for being elected as a President alike the male candidates much earlier. Asmer (2004) states that “The matter of being elected as a president depends upon the decision of the people whom they think most appropriate to move the country on the way of gradual development” (p.6). Race is a powerful mover in context of America in matters associated with national election.
But, people consider the benefits they get from the Government and accordingly cast their support for a particular party. Generally, women are seemed as sustaining and preserving everything with utmost motherly care. The recent example suggests that “Condoleezza Rice has gained reputation and popularity because of her effort of rendering America as a perfectly meritocratic land of opportunity” (Gill, 16 October 2005). This manifests the reflection of peoples’ support for making contribution facilitating the gradual development of the country.
So, the popularity of an African- American (Rice) convinces the minds of people that for the true development of the country electing a black woman is urgently required and a matter of importance in the present context. In fact, electing a black woman as a president is essential for the sake of advancement and true development of the country.
