While in other places, job relocation happens relatively close to home due to the smaller geographic region of political and language borders, it is not the same in the United States. Our geographical boundaries are wide enough to hit two oceans. When we go across the country, ties with family and community are completely cut. Job relocation of any person in a family is harmful to the family structure. A key player is removed from the family unit, be it the father, mother, even children. Reimer conducted a research study that suggested job relocation was potentially harmful to families (2000).

The possible outcomes of the trend "job relocation" are multiple depending on the specific demographic taken into account, family members involved in the move, and the stability of labor markets. For example, job relocation for migrant families depends heavily on the legislation concerning them, legislation concerning migrant worker programs, education patterns, and benefits for children of migrant workers, and others.Globalization is another factor that will affect job relocation. Anderson and Stark reported that "large corporations relocate an average of 100,000 employees and their families each year.

" Globalization has led to increased competition, and workers are often given the opportunity to relocate. This information, coupled with our growing understanding of globalization, makes it logical that workers will feel insecure in their positions, either leave the job before it can be taken from them; or, workers will feel pressure to leave with the job and leave behind an economically depressed community. In addition to problems individuals and the family structure will face, there will be problems incurred for communities.

A good example of this happened in a depressed Kentucky community. A government program "paid welfare families to leave their jobless hometowns and find work elsewhere" (Jaffe).One of the benefits of job change is a higher salary. Historically, workers have had to relocate jobs in order to make money and survive (Reimer). However, another current trend is to change jobs for the significant opportunity in the prestige of a job, for the purpose of building a career. Job relocation seems to be done more for personal ambition than for necessity to make more money.

Concerning American citizens, job relocation is a trend that only will seem to grow, as much for more prestigious jobs as for the necessity. In view of how university education has become practically compulsory for any livable wage-earning job, it only makes sense that the more ambitious individuals will want to separate themselves from the pack and seek out the most prestigious opportunities they can find. Job relocation is a trend that will grow in the future, both for necessity and job security as well as for individuals who want to seek prestigious jobs.

This has been shown to negatively impact the family structure. Therefore, I fear that in the future, due to the importance of the worker and job opportunity, the family will become less important to Americans.
