All these schools have particular concerns and they have put theories forward to either support or criticize the Marxism theories. Marxists theories of popular culture date back to the 19th century when he provided basic ideologies on the existence of a natural society. Marx used a materialistic approach to explain the balances that exist in a typical society. In his theory, Marx provided that the social aspects of a society are determined by the relations of productions characteristic in this society.
Consequently, people will indulge in leisure and entertainment depending on their economic wellbeing. Another major concern of Marx was the influence of capitalism among the dominant classes in the society. Marx proposed that popular culture is just a manifestation of the influence of capitalists in the society and their manipulation of the society (Strinati 192-140). On commodity fetishism, Marx proposed that capitalist manipulate the intrinsic value of products to ensure that they reap from the business and social relationship.
The idea of Marx on popular culture has dominated the theoretical background of society set up and has generated a lot of multi-concern reactions from a wide range of scholars.
