Therefore, I support this idea, which discredits Tim’s notion of colorless and cultureless; in fact, this essay argues that he deflects his attention to social centrality and privilege. Besides, this enviously portrays the marginalized and recognized culture. This paper focuses on presenting a response to “Our Voices: Essays in Culture, Ethnicity, and Communication” by Alberto Gonzales, Marsha Houston and Victoria Chen, and my personal experience in regard to the topic. This essay explains that there is an overlap of HHM Commemoration and observance by the commonality of various commemorations such as German American Day, National Disability Employment Awareness Month, National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, and others.
Moreover, this essay urges students to participate in rhetorical power of heritage commemorations. Furthermore, there are other argument made after observations by Blair Jeppeson and Pucci, whereby they indicate that commemorative monuments are applicable to heritage months such as HHM. The essay explains that HHM, influences participants into distinctive standpoint among the Latin’s and significant engagement in the perspectives, which involve substantial understanding of the community. The essay explains there is a symbolic power of commemoration, which is discovered by Virginia Governor Richard McDonnell, in 2010.
In this case, the Governor is said to have omitted a significant aspect of life during the Confederate History Month. Arguably, this prompted abrupt criticism; through the governor sought to make necessary amendments for his proclamation, despite the fact that damages had already been done. On the other hand, the essay proposes a good approach towards HHM, whereby it can be considered an invitation, which offers a chance of learning about Latin people in the society. The essay presents a notion that heritage observances is meant to contribute understanding of Latin, thereby creating a critical understanding of the social issues contended by the Latin.
Furthermore, the essay explains that other role of heritage observance, which entails facilitating the process of building relationship and partnerships across cultural perspectives. My personal experience that relates to the essay involves my interaction with Latin people, whereby I have made several friends with them. Moreover, we participate in recreational activities, where we have a chance to discuss about their culture. Apparently, I find no difference in our ways of life, since we all live the same lifestyles despite our culture.
In this case, modernization seems to have taken a great toll on people’s lives despite their cultural background. Nevertheless, there some of the distinct attributes that are culturally founded in most of the Latin people such as being religious; for instance, most of them are Catholics. Therefore, this is the experience that I have gathered from interacting with people from another culture, and it has facilitated significantly in promoting harmonious interaction with the Latin people.
