?Qualitative Study of Reasons for Non-Participation in Regular Physical Recreation Introduction This qualitative study has the main objectives of examining and relating the reactions or feedbacks of married women and men that do not take part in physical recreation. Lack of physical activity from married and single women has been researched less comprehensively than men`s physical activity (Creswell, 2003). The issue of non-participation in physical activity can have emotional impact the value of life and wellbeing of women in the entire world. Therefore, it is vital to address this issue and comprehend the reasons why some women do not take part in leisureliness activities. The ‘qualitative’ study in this report deliberates the chief subjects or motives for non-partaking from women and likens these motives between matrimonial men and women. In the beginning this research, will provide a brief review of some previous research in this field mainly the reasons for not taking part in physical activity. In the second part, this research will provide a short description of the research method employed to collect data for quantitative research and lastly, it will illustrate and demonstrate the main reason for non-participation in physical recreation of married women and men. Literature Review There have been various studies concerning the subject of non-participation of married men and women in regular physical recreation. From various studies carried out earlier, a significant number of married men and women have limited time to take part in regular physical activity because of various roles at hand. Time insufficiency according to research is the feeling that a person does not have adequate time to carry out all things that one would like to carry out. This has become one of the big complications that both men and women are encountering currently. Various researches have reported that time issues are the most regularly stated explanations or causes for not taking part in regular recreational activities (Thomsson, 2004). Lack of adequate time is also considered as the most limiting aspect to various individuals who desire to take part in a multiplicity of recreational activities, as well as for not using homegrown park and recreation services. Research shows that married women are at a greater disadvantage concerning time for regular recreation than men. This is because of various household responsibilities and family devotions compared to their male counterparts. Further studies have revealed that both working and unemployed married women have limited time for recreation activities than their husbands.it has been emphasized by research that limited time because of family responsibilities was noted by women as a primary barriers in early and later family stages. In addition, lack of enough finances also causes lack of participation in regular recreational activities. Research shows that low income limits access to the resources and abilities necessary to take part in a range of recreation activities. This is because finance is positively related to participation in various sorts of leisure activities, as well as use of public park and recreation resources. For instance, the development of outdoor recreation has also been ascribed to an increase in the gross national product and individual incomes. Family magnitudes have reduced over the years and the fraction of married partners with children in the populace has minimized. Concurrently, the portion of ‘single-parent’ families has increased; however, single-parent families characteristically have lesser earnings, a lesser amount of movement, and a lesser amount of free time than do two-parent families do (Torkildsen, 2007). Thus, single-parent families are expected to profit from outdoor recreation chances that are near to their homes. In addition, coming from unprivileged homes or lack of sources because of proceeds means that some married couples cannot take part in recreational activities. Furthermore, various studies claim that lack of enough or sufficient facilities are also the cause of lack of participation in recreational activities among the married women and men. Examples of such facilities may encompass parking lots, buildings, equipment, as well as route ways. Men and women may have well intentions concerning improving their health status by doing or taking part in regular physical activities. However, these intentions are frequently not put into action made to be a realistic. Therefore, just like it is that not everybody likes similar kind of recreational facility, it is vital that various forms of facilities as alternatives should be put in place to enable people have an alternative or choose what they like most. This is because in most cases taking part in regular physical recreational activities is reliant on accessibility and site of amenities. Methods Qualitative methods are noted to be strong or powerful because of their flexibility once they are into the research. In addition, ‘qualitative’ study involves numerous techniques more recurrently than any other procedure of study techniques including measurable examination. Qualitative research is strong because it mainly deals with social information and its interpretation involving not only the participants but also the researcher. Moreover, Qualitative data aims to understand the phenomena in ways that extend and enrich participant voices; documenting feelings and sentiments ensures that report findings are not merely represented by numbers and statistics. Studies assert that, the value of thematic analysis in that it provides the researcher with an opportunity to examine the data line by line. In doing so, the researcher is able to track and expose patterns that emerge from data and over-arching themes that tell a story. Therefore, in this research, use of interviews and observation participation were used to gather relevant information concerning the question at hand. For instance, the use interviews were relevant. According to research, an interview is a dialogue that has an arrangement and a determination, and it goes beyond the impulsive interchange of views in everyday discussions, and becomes a careful interrogation and heeding tactic with the drive of obtaining thoroughly verified information. An interview is a method that is widely used nowadays by social workers, counselors, medical staff, marketing staff, politicians, researchers and many others. Although interviewer and respondent are present in most interviews, it could be conducted over the phone or through the media (Flick, 2009). There are many different types of interviews to rationalize the purpose of research; research interviews, clinical interviews, media interviews, job interviews, parent-teacher interviews, group interviews are some examples. Respondents may not be ready to answer all the questions or may not answer the questions accurately all the time, but the interview gives the researcher an idea about their interest, understanding and absorbing the topics that have been raised in the interview questions. Consequently, Partaker reflection technique was engaged. Contestant reflection is a special mode of scrutiny in which a research is not merely a passive observer. Instead, he or she may assume a variety of roles researcher has to find a role within the group or community that is studied in their natural settings (Miles, 2001). Research asserts that, there are several types of participation according to the preferences of researcher such as passive participation, moderate participation and active participation. In unreceptive involvement, the researcher is present in the field but does not interrelate with other folks largely. In moderate participation, the researcher seeks to maintain a balance between observation and participation, while in active participation the researcher seeks to do what other people are doing. Discussion of Findings From this research, it was found that various married men and women do not take part in regular recreational activities for various reasons. For instance, the married men that were interviewed, the research noted that some of them were not motivated in carrying our physical activities. This is basically because after working for more hours, some just loose interest in exercising because of exhaustion. In addition, some married declared that they had financial issues that did not allow them to invest more in physical recreational activities. For instance, some said that physical recreational activities are expensive and far away from their homes, thus could not afford visiting such places regularly (Shaw, 2006). Others said that the do not have energy to exercise or exercising do not suit them. On the other hand, this study found out that a good number of married women were not participating in regular physical recreational activities because of various reasons including no motivation, not interested in participation; some have no energy to take part in such activities, while others prefer to read before retiring to bed. Accordingly, some married women said that the location for recreational amenities are far away from their homes thus could not make it to those locations. Conclusion In conclusion, this qualitative study had the key goals of scrutinizing and linking the retorts or feedbacks of married women and men that do not take part in physical recreation. Lack of physical activity from married and single women has been researched less comprehensively than men`s physical activity. The issue of non-participation in physical activity can have emotional impact on the value of life and wellbeing of women in the entire world. Therefore, this study realized that there are various reasons that make married men and women not to take part in regular physical recreational activities. For instance, there was lack of motivation, inadequate finances, lack of enough time, and lack of energy. References Creswell, J. (2003).
