?Argument Essay A number of factors influence population increase. Population growth inherently depicts an improvement in the quality of life of citizens in a country. The future demographic change in the United Kingdom will include an increase in population and a further increase in the proportion of those aged above fifty five years old. An increase in the aged population results in the growth of more commercial activities in the country thus the claim that such a demographic tilt will represent more of an opportunity than a threat to businesses in the United Kingdom. One of the key factors that results in an improved quality of life is health policies in a country. The United Kingdom arguably has some of the best health policies globally. The inception of managed health care has made access to health services cheaper and better. Managed health care is a mechanism of payment in which patients subscribe to health policies and the policy providers thereafter settle the hospitals bills in the event of a sickness. Sollecito & Johnson (2013) assert that this type of payment makes it easier for a bigger percentage of the population to afford high quality health care services thus improving the quality of life of a population in a country. This further results in low morbidity and a low mortality rate thus allowing more people to grow to such ages as above fifty five. The good quality of life and the low mortality rate is further contributed to by the stability of the economy. The United Kingdom is a stable economy in the larger European region. This implies that the country easily finds jobs for its population making everyone afford the basic necessities of a quality lifestyle (Sollecito & Johnson, 2013). The country has an effective education system and affordable health schemes for her citizens which, coupled with the favorable job market for its employable population, makes the country a friendly environment for human habitation; it presents fewer risks to the citizens thereby enabling more people to live longer. Literally, when the population of the aged increases, the younger population scare off and begin feeling threatened as the resources become scarce. However, this is not likely to occur in the United Kingdom where the growth in their population promises to create a more competitive business market. This population consists of retirees; such people are considered past the employable age and the government thus lays them off. However, with a such a high quality of life, they will still be productive people worth employing only that the government will not have a place for them. They thus have their own money from their savings and the government pensions. These people will therefore reinvest their money into the economy by opening up new businesses in a bid to find some engaging activity. Such investments further create jobs for the younger generation while strengthening the economy. The private sector of the economy continues to expand with more of the aged entrepreneurs investing their money in real estates and other lucrative businesses. Furthermore, such investments contribute to the infrastructural growth of the country. The aged population will thus improve the gross domestic value while making the economy more accommodating and stronger than in a country with more of the younger population. At such advanced ages, people acquire some lifestyle diseases and other chronic infections. These make the old live vulnerable lives where they are always conscious of death as a possibility. While this continues to stress others, it creates business opportunity for others. Most of life policy providers today tailor make policies for the aged. The vulnerable condition of the aged thus make them a business opportunity for the enterprising minds. This population consists of people with their money having worked their productive years. Most of them have investments while others enjoy their pensions. They thus always shop for quality rather than quantity (Robert, 2003). The products and services they purchase are quality oriented and are always luxurious to the younger population. This opens up the market for entrepreneurs creating opportunities for the innovation of more products and services for the upmarket class. Besides the above ways of expanding the market, the aged are more drawn to luxury and comfort. At this stage, most of them are established with fully grown families and therefore no dependants. They thus have more time on their own to spend their money. Most of them opt for tours to sight see and simply spend both their money and time. This trend opens up the hospitality industry leading to the growth of the tourism and travel industry in the country. As the industry grows, it employs more people most of whom are the younger population. In retrospect, the economy is a cycle that requires the contribution of every sector. However, the private sector contributes more to the growth of the gross domestic product which is a fact that necessitates the presences of the aged in an economy since they make up a bigger percentage of private investors.
